Hey all -
I mentioned last night on the radio show that since the show is not going to get the ink that I feel it deserves, I am going to Take It To The Streets to get the word out. So I am launching The Best Show Enthusiasm Rewards Club!
Basically I will announce one person every week who does something awesome to spread the word on the show. Get out there and tell people about it: get a famous person onboard, get your pastor to mention it in church, write about it in your school paper, organize a listening party - whatever! But DOCUMENT IT and get me the documentation.
I'll announce a winner every week and the winner will receive some awesome stuff from me. I promise it'll be cool stuff worth your while.
It is NOT a weekly contest, so you don't 'lose' if you didn't win it that week. You might get it next week.
And the one thing I must stress is that you CANNOT DO THINGS OUTSIDE OF THE BOUNDARIES OF THE LAW. Don't spraypaint the show on the side of the police station or do anything dumb, please. You will be instantly kicked out of the running and I will make fun of you on the air to boot.
This should be FUN and if you're into it, I am into it!
Send all submissions to toms@wfmu.org with BEST SHOW ENTHUSIASM REWARDS in the subject line.
We will get something up on the site to pay tribute to all the entrants!
Thanks for caring. I really do appreciate it!
Tom.

I like it...
Does dedicating time on one's own radio show count as an attempt? Because I fully intend to drive my cohost nuts with this.
-
Allright, who's wants to do a listener party at my bar in Greenpoint. I can pipe the show into my backyard. It would be really cool. Especially for those who live in Greenpoint.

Has anyone else noticed that Tom's post-o-meter is stuck at 666?
I think he means business.
Let's get that enthusiasm going!
-
This has got to be a strong contender.

In the fall, I delivered a public lecture on Paradox, and included the Supercallers cartoon in the middle of the presentation. Does this get me any points? Even one? What if I can produce photographic evidence?

Got something in the works for this Saturday...
-
PS: This isn't the thing I have planned for this weekend, but I also happen to paint backgrounds for a cartoon show that will be airing in the near future... Any simple little symbols or images I could sneak in to posters on walls etc. that might be a nod to the Best Show? Gotta be kid (9-12) appropriate, and I doubt I can literally write "The Best Show on WFMU" and get it approved.
I'll try to think of something on my own, but any good suggestions will be considered!

Would graffiti reading "For a good time call Sheila Larson" be appropriate?

An ad for Consolidated Cardboard?
-
Haha, probably not on the Sheila Larson one. I'm trying to think of maybe an image instead of words... I like that Consolidated Cardboard idea the most so far. Maybe I can find a way to sneak in a mouse with a cape...
-
Just put "Newbridge" on something.
-
Simple, but effective. Now to look for a good spot for it...

Here's my first submission to the contest: http://dummcomics.com/2011/07/02/razpage-part-2/ (http://dummcomics.com/2011/07/02/razpage-part-2/)
I draw a weekly comic on Dumm Comics (every Saturday my RAD RAZ strip runs), an online comic collective that typically gets a couple thousand hits a day. Not only did I place an ad for the show in today's comic, but I made a little write-up about the show in the blog section of the site - a double whammy!
Enjoy!

how is this best show related?
you used the word 'chump' but aside from that I don't get it.

oh right. i actually missed that.
I'm an ass.

I remember Tom being unhappy with his portrait in NY Mag, so I hope he doesn't hate my cartoony caricature too much :/ Since it's a cartoon I wanted it to be exaggerated and silly

Thinking of making "The Charles Manson Of Food In The Ziegler Household" t-shirts. Who wants one?
Edit: Need to listen to the podcast to make sure I got that right.

Over the last two months I traveled across Europe and part of the Middle East and I always had TBS with me in one way or another. I spent the majority of the two months hitch hiking, walking and sometimes riding trains across Europe and Turkey. Prior to my departure I made sure my iPod had all of the available Best Show episodes and TBS Gems uploaded to revisit some favorites or finally listen to something I might have missed. While traveling I stayed with people I had arranged stays with before leaving and stayed with some people I met on the road. Those who had a firm grasp on the English language would often ask me what I was listening to or why I would have a huge grin on my face, and I would always reply "do you enjoy a good laugh?" to which was always replied with a "yes", and then TBS would be introduced.
On Wednesday mornings I would download the new episode and put it on my phone so I was able to keep up with the "current events."
I know that TBS has been criticized for being "too local", which we all know isn't true (frequent calls from England, Australia and New Zealand among others), but now TBS has fans in Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Turkey. TBS haters might think we act local, but we're doing things global.

This may not reach a huge number of people, but it is likely an untapped market. I have outfitted myself to spread the word to rural Ontario. If anyone needs the enlightenment of The Best Show ...

I got my picture taken for my local newspaper in a 'Newbridge is for Lovers' t-shirt. We'll see if it makes it in the paper.
-
Hmm, they took a lot of pictures of me for this news article, but the pictures in the online version do not show the "Newbridge is for Lovers" part. So you can't really tell what it is. Darn

I'm sure you realize that from Lawrence Kansas you are perfectly situated to do the Rock, Rot & Rule of comedy.

Do you have a blog about this? I've played the best show to people in Madison and Milwaukee and they got bored. If you have a show to to show that would be brilliant.

So there it is, me wearing the Best Show t-shirt in a regional entertainment newspaper. I can feel a prize package coming on...

I'm thinking about entering a cross stitch advertising the show into the Oklahoma State Fair craft competition. Is that good enough to win a prize?
-
Following up on my previous post about a Best Show listening party last week at my camp site:
http://onegoodminute.indieposit.com/2011/07/27/best-show-on-wfmu-camping-listening-party/ (http://onegoodminute.indieposit.com/2011/07/27/best-show-on-wfmu-camping-listening-party/)
Are the prizes for creativity or actual results.....never mind, I probably failed in both areas.

You have inspired me to try my hand at some Best Show themed "seed art" for the MN State Fair.

Mike posted this in his corner of the forums, but I think it counts here...
This week's "True Story" comic had the story donated by none other than AP Mike! His stamp of bleak, bleak humor is all over this thing.
http://www.mikeholmesdraws.com/post/8100769924/true-story-199 (http://www.mikeholmesdraws.com/post/8100769924/true-story-199)
The paper that it appears in, The Coast, is Halifax's alt-weekly with a readership of around 70,000, with the online numbers being many tens of thousands more. You can see I tagged the comic with a shout-out to the Best Show.
And next week, for my 200th comic, the story will be our own Kid Jersey's. You all heard him promise me on the radio. That one, also, will have a Best Show tag on it.
That counts, right?
-
This is being entered into the Oklahoma State Fair, a market that I'm guessing is relatively untapped for the show. A border will be added.

You have my vote, but my bet is on the extremely detailed picture of James Inhofe that some lady in Pushmataha County is entering right now.
-
Not expecting this to win, but I had a work meeting with two of the guys who run the iTunes Podcast directory last week. I made a point of complimenting their taste for constantly featuring The Best Show in the "Staff Picks" section. Unfortunately, I don't think they were the ones who put The Best Show there since they kind of gave me blank stares in response.
-
I will appoint a commissioner of this program tonight.
And if you are a past winner please email me at toms@wfmu.org with your mailing address and write REWARDS WINNER in the subject line.
Thanks!
Tom.

Banksy-grade street art should be the standard for award-worthy activities.
As Spike might say: PROCEED.
-
Ok, Update: I finally found a background in this cartoon that I could doodle a mouse wearing a cape onto. There's a scene with a high school locker room and I drew one on the wall as graffiti. Now I'll just cross my fingers that no one makes me take it out...
PS: Speaking of Banksy, I work next to Mr. Brainwash's current studio. I see him at the coffee shop down the street now, and apparently he chased down someone that broke into a co-worker's car the other day (true and weird stories).

As an Okie, this just got me so much more excited about the Great State Fair. As if the deep fried Snickers wasn't enough..

Hey Tom,
Here is the info for our Portland, OR meet-up/ listening party!
Sept 27th at The Waypost, 3120 North Williams Avenue, Portland, OR 97212. 6-9pm!
The Waypost is a great friend-owned pub that hosts tons of eclectic shows, has great beer and food choices, and has a brand new outdoor seating area right next to a community garden. It is a cool space, and they are very friendly. We're gonna be pumping the show in the main area and on the patio. We're crossing our fingers that you'll be doing the show that Tuesday, but if not, we'll have some back-up prepared. We're really hoping that all the Portland F.O.T's can come together for maybe the first time? Everyone is welcome, and we'll probably be silk-screening some shirts as well. BYOS.
Here is a link to our facebook event:https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=149954095092031
Here is a link to the waypost calendar:http://thewaypost.com/calendar.php

Hey ladies and gentlemen - Matt "Dumm Oaf" Marquee here from Chicago.
Been doing the wrasslin' thing around here and it's been going SWIMMINGLY. And if/when I make it out to Philly, Greggulator's got a managerial gig...Dark Greggulator = nuclear heat!
Anywho - I've filmed a few promos and the latest one features some Best Show love and will be shown to the fans in the area and hopefully beyond. Thought I'd share it here to see what the FOT's and Tom thought. Maybe some of you all can help spread the word and all through Twitter or Facebook?! ...but I appreciate anyone just willing to sit through this outrageous-ness!
Here's the link:"Behind The Velvet Rope" w/ Matt Marquee (Ep. 2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPofzVnyPao#ws)

That is a seriously intense and effective promo, Marquee. I dig your style! Chicago/FOT solidarity, brother.

Thanks, Kathleen
I'm trying to turn out one a week so keep coming back to check them out. If you or any FOT's in the Chicago area ever want to come out for a night of ridiculous entertainment, my Facebook page I post all the shows I'm on!
PS - Next time I can listen live (..when I DONT work at 5am...) I think good 'ol Bobby Blayze will get a promo cut on him...

As stated on Twitter:
The Best Show Enthusiasm Rewards Weekly Winner: @catiemonster for excellence in live-drawing the program here catiefromatlanta.tumblr.com (http://catiefromatlanta.tumblr.com).
Not entirely sure of the proper protocol, but I would contact Tom through any of the ways in which he can be contacted, say "I won!!!!," and then he will give you a prize of some sort.
If you previously entered, but didn't win, feel free to resubmit your effort(s) in this very thread for future consideration.
-
Thank you, Omar.
And if everybody who did win can write me again and say I WON and include your mailing address I will take care of biz.
Thanks!

Is soliciting celebrity guests crossing a line Omar?
In general, I would say that if you play a role/help in landing a guest that Tom actually wants to have on the show, then that would certainly be worthy of recognition. I would recommended Sebastian Bach or Stephen Pearcy. Absent Tom's interest/approval in the potential celebrity guest, the solicitation would seem out of bounds and not particularly worthwhile.

So getting back to the OP, I'd love to do something for the show, but I'm not quite sure what exactly. I suppose that's part of the challenge, thinking of something to do. Does anybody have any thoughts? Maybe we can put our heads together. Perhaps we can get a list of skills/connections/whatever going to spark some ideas and collaborate.
