For some reason, the first thing that popped into my head was "Shapoopie" from The Music Man. How disorienting. Buddy Hacket dancing in a candy-stripe jacket, blows reigning down. Oof.
-
I'm thinking 'Let it Snow' would be particularly bad. Not only would it be jarring in the moment, but there's no way of avoiding it at the holidays. Every time it played you'd be brought back to broken noses and spitting out your teeth.
-
"Black Dog" b/c I'd have a Ludivico reaction to my favorite music like Alex de Large to Beethoven's 9th.
"It's the punishment element, I suppose"
For disorientment's sake: "Stay" Lisa Loeb.
-
Aqua - Barbie Girl
Laurie Anderson - O Superman
-
The theme song to Rocky. "gonna FLYYYYYYYYYYYY now" WHAP
-
Yo La Tengo's "Story of Yo La Tango" It would ruin my enjoyment of a great song forever, plus it's over 10 minutes. So that's a pretty long clobbering. I've never been clobbered for more than 45 seconds or so and that was scarring enough.

I have read some sick shit on this site, but this--- brrrrrrrr...
-
I felt honored when he mentioned me by name for "I Know Where Sid Barrett Lives" by Television Personalities.
-
I was thinking that weird song break in "Come Sail Away" by Styx on a loop.
-
No, but seriously, folks. The worst song to get beat up to has to be the Horst Wessel Lied. :D
-
I was thinking today's lousiest pop - "Call Me Maybe," maybe. Those violins.
-
The Hollies - The air that I breathe [1974] Original Version [HQ] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb7S8-Iewi0#)
-
R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts
-
R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts
If Quentin Tarantino had any real guts, this would be the music for his next extended torture scene. Or Marty Scorsese would remove "Layla" from Goodfellas and put this in.
-
I would go with either "Beat on the brat" because it gives the aggressor the suggestion of using a weapon (Baseball Bat) or "Tubthumping" because it encourages both the beater and the beaten to keep fighting.
-
We thought of many more tonight during dinner. It's getting hard to narrow down....
Possibilities:
The ice skating song from Peanuts Christmas
"The Authority Song" by John Cougar Mellencamp
"Lucky Man"--ELP
"Parents Just Don't Understand"--Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince (imagined a goon showing up with a massive vintage ghetto blaster. Plopping it on the ground. Rolling up his sleeves and saying, "sorry man, this is just how the boss told me he wanted it to be..." pressing the button. "Parents Just Don't Understand" kicks in. Beatdown commences.)
"TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS" Seriously. Ucccch.
And the one that gave me the worst skeevies:
"FREE BIRD." Think about it. Talk about insult on top of insult on top of insult. Horrors.
-
Free Design Love You ✿ ✿ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsP1RHR9JwE#)
Also known as the theme to Jordan, Jesse, Go! Now that I think about it, this is another song I'd like to see used in Tarantino's next torture montage.
-
Kingsley and Perrey - Unidentified Flying Object (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDmPOQAkPNQ#)
-
"You Are My Sister" by Antony and the Johnsons.
For a less surreal choice, if you were getting your buns kicked to the tune of anything by ICP, you probably made some really bad choices :P
-
My suggestion is the track 'Jazz Police' by Leonard Cohen from his 'I'm Your Man' album.
I also envisage the clobbering taking place on an icy uphill path.
-
Guys it's Carribean Queen
-
Sweet Caroline
"SWEEEEET CA-RO-LINE!......PUNCH! PUNCH! PUNCH!"
-
Crocodile Rock.
Has a song ever sounded like it's making fun of you harder?
-
I can't decide what would be worse: a "adding insult to injury song," like "Desperado" or "Bungle in the Jungle," or something that spurred my assailant to even great levels of violence, like "Hit the Lights."
-
The Godfather theme
-
it would suck to get beat-down to some funky porno soundtrack instrumental music.
Oh, is this not the Mike and his ilk board? My bad.
-
I was in the gym the other day and the Bee Gee's "Night Fever" came over the speakers.
I immediately thought of this topic.
-
Getting beaten black and blue while hearing Fat Larry's Band singing Zoom wouldn't not be good.
Not good at all.
-
Friend suggested this:
The Puppy Song ~ Harry Nilsson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBbT40H74sc#ws)
-
"Daddy's Song" would be the worst Nilsson-written song to be beaten up to. Especially if the lights were flashing the whole time like in this performance (which is one of my favorite things ever):
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PNfnNBDatY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PNfnNBDatY#ws)
-
Living in Hanoi at the moment and as the massive annual Tet celebrations approach it's getting increasingly difficult to escape the festive favourite "Happy New Year" by ABBA.
The Best Show's sparking nightmares of someone finally snapping, snatching up a scooter helmet, and bashing in the face of the stupid foreigner as those Swedish harmonies soar.
-
as awful as actually getting beat up to "Yakety Sax" would be, just the concept of it has had me giggling to myself all week.
-
"Mahna Mahna"
Muppet Show - Mahna Mahna...m HD 720p bacco... Original! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N_tupPBtWQ#ws)
-
Davy Jones - The Original (Kind-of) Song-and- (Kind-of) Dance Man.
-
Davy Jones - The Original (Kind-of) Song-and- (Kind-of) Dance Man.
I'll always be sad that we only got to hear Tom's impression of Davy one or two times before Davy passed.
-
I think I finally "got" this item earlier today when I heard Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll." That would be pretty horrible, I think.
-
Engima - The End of Innocence
-
My suggestion was
Heavenly - C Is the Heavenly Option (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzHKSDy9cME#)
-
In the insult to injury vein,
"Two Tickets to Paradise" - Eddie Money
-

I always wondered why no indie band (or any band wanting to make a video on the cheap) never copied this. It looks really cool and would be as cheap to make as you can get. What's the downside?
-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRatNHqdCTQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRatNHqdCTQ#)
We are the Champions on Theremin.

-
Trololo... The Full Original Version. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSA_sWGM44#)
Lynchian!
-
My son recommended Lesley Gore's "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows."
-
Let me elaborate on my choice a little. Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock 'n Roll" would be horrible because you know the guys doing the clobbering would be getting into it, getting pumped up by it, and would start like preening and showing off for each other to it, and for them it would be like delivering a particularly brutal curbstomp was striking a really righteous blow for old time rock 'n' roll against all this new-fangled disco shit. And meantime you'd not only have to hear the song, you would know your asskicking was providing jollies for guys like that.
-
Has anyone yet proposed "Somebody That I Used To Know," specifically the last half featuring Kimbra?
-
J'taime Moi Non Plus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z8UJJSdJdc#ws)
-
KAKAKAKAKAKA KATMANDU
Katmandu - Bob Seger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd3Mt8JBBBg#)
-
one should never utter their personal hell such that the devil may hear, but...
The Byrds' "Eight Miles High" live at the Fillmore East, Sept. 23, 1970
10 minutes of waiting through a one-chord-"free jazz thing that they can't do"-vamp for the song to cathartically kick in -- as on side two of their Untitled -- but it never does
The Byrds-"Eight Miles High"-9/23/70 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKhI09XO5R0#)
-
That "piece" would make a bad thing seem to go on even longer than it really did.
-
All Star by Smash Mouth.
-
Weird Al "The Rye or the Kaiser"
Weird Al - Rye Or The Kaiser (Good Quality) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbq08-_UhUU#)
Edie Brickell "Circle"
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - Circle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_GkjymuQ9U#)
-
"Circle" is pretty perfect.
My nomination:
Mr. Magic - ...And the Native Hipsters
http://youtu.be/RX4pqUe-AnE (http://youtu.be/RX4pqUe-AnE)

This one's great. Top five for the category.
This version of this song is a nightmare. I'd like Vance to do a critique on it from a prog-rock fan's point of view.
-
David Essex- Rock On

-
I've thought of another one.
Starship, We Built this City.
Specifically the bit where the DJ's going 'You're tuned into City Effemm, the city that rocks the city that does this that and the other blah blah blah.'
I think that even though you were taking a pasting you'd be thinking 'Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!'
-
The Ziggy & AP Mike version of "Mother."
-
any Brainbombs song.
-
"I Love You Always Forever" Donna Lewis
-
"Comedians Are Nuts"
-
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIbcqgXh5-4#)
-
Has anyone yet proposed "Somebody That I Used To Know," specifically the last half featuring Kimbra?
... and ESPECIALLY if you were getting stomped by a lady.
I always liked the way she really punched the word "used" when she went into the chorus.
-
The song Mike will not hear when Gary is beating him up because they are now pals. :D
Uh! Oh! Part 1 by The Nutty Squirrels (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M25B0IhqBsk#)
-
My Pal Foot Foot by The Shaggs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR9d4ESlpHY#)
Because this song automatically sounds like someone is getting pummeled.
-
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIbcqgXh5-4#)
lady buffcoat and I listened to a 90s pop mix on Pandora last night as we straightened up the place. I was surprised gratified, that, as far afield as it went (Tal Bachman! Stretch Princess!), it included not one Crash Test Dummies song in three hours.
-
"I Love You Always Forever" Donna Lewis
I had forgotten the pain of this song. "Magical tiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmeeeee."
-
'We Like to Party' Vengaboys with the creepy old guy
I guess thinking about the visual while being pummeled is the worst, but the song is frightening in its own right:
We Like to Party! (Six Flags Theme Song) with lyrics!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIoRUVMlTIw#)
-
....And while getting the link for the previous entry YouTube recommended
Das Racist - Combination Pizza Hut And Taco Bell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ8ViYIeH04#)
Well played YouTube
-
"...You were always on my mind..."
EDIT: I forgot that was in an ASPCA commercial, which makes it one hell of a downer, so I hereby retract it
-
This topic was inspired by a friend of mine who was in a store that was playing this song when a group of large street toughs came in and started making a scene. There was no clobbering, but it seemed like a pretty bad song for it if it had occurred.
Annie Lennox - Little Bird on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/47174901)
I happen to think this would also be pretty horrible:
Joan Osborne - One Of Us (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4CRkpBGQzU#)
-
Citizen King - Ive Seen Better Days
Better Days (And The Bottom Drops Out) (Video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=DKxXHEx-XnU#)
-
"My Way" - because everyone thinks of themselves as the protagonist of that song, but as you heard the words, you'd realize that the person beating you up was the protagonist.
Frank Sinatra - My Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85_YK-La0vk#)
-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_XgQhMPeEQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_XgQhMPeEQ#)
Hands down. Also, full disclosure, the Katmandu suggestion made me snarf Dr. Pepper.
-
More time has now passed between that video and the present than had passed between 1959 and that video. Jeez.
Also, Billy Joel's "character" was supposed to be 18 + 25 = 43 in that video. Why did they make him look 65? He looks nuts now, but in some ways he still doesn't look as old as they made him look in that video.
-
I had actually never seen the video until last night and...woof...those military grade glasses weren't doing him any favors.
-
Any "post-rock" like Godspeed You Black Emperor or The Psychic Paramount would be rough stuff to suffer a clobberin' to. Not only are the songs rife with pummeling crescendos aplenty they are too llloooonnnnngggggggg.
Anything from the first Octoberfaction for similar yet different reasons too.
-
I imagine a David Lynch style beat-down, so definitely Roy Orbison's Crying. This isn't an explosive beatdown. This is a sadistic, drawn-out affair. Think Blue Velvet. Or maybe BOB.

Either the version of "Mack the Knife" they used on the Ernie Kovacs specials:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfB3jj8vKlo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfB3jj8vKlo)
Or
Dave Van Ronk's haunting version of the song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsOUFoC0dTY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsOUFoC0dTY)
(Forgot to add that Kurt Weill composed the song, and Wolfgang Neuss sang the song in the Kovacs version.)
-
Queen - Spread Your Wings (Official Video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyd6OLyhPJo#)
-
Sometimes When We Touch - Dan Hill - Official Video 1994 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IATz8ZVTALo#)
-
That's a good one.
Of course, you could just go all the way:
Morris Albert "Feelings" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRaI7ZOmTr4#)
-
actually this might be really fun to get clobbered to...

Good first post. I've been trying to decide what my first post should be.

I've been trying to decide what my first post should be.

This is how my dad taught me about "the birds and the bees". He had a twelve string and the production value was a little lower.

Some other ideas:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=C83LpEWNJd0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C83LpEWNJd0#)
This was from the Doug Yule only album, the last track.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1snxjh_them-its-all-over-now-baby-blue-1970_music (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1snxjh_them-its-all-over-now-baby-blue-1970_music)
The Van Morrison Them version, not the later version without him.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HMhfdfxR98 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HMhfdfxR98#)
Another take on that backing track. Could you stand hearing you own bones break as Beck Hansen croons out his LSD/sci-fi-inspired lyrics?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG_k5CSYKhg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG_k5CSYKhg#)
Will you last to the piano bit at the end?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=39VXuviqD9w (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39VXuviqD9w#)
My final suggestion.....the piano bit at the end is more plaintive, I think.
(edit: Video changed because the music video doesn't play the song to the absolute end for whatever reason.)
-
Don't have time to go through this whole thread. Has someone already suggested "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams?
-
Strangely I think someone did, I might be wrong
-
Anything on this guy's album.
