About 30 miles, but it's mostly on the turnpike so it's not too bad for these parts.
I don't know any Knoxville stereotypes for an appropriate response.
Plus, yeah, traffic's pretty lousy here.

I know you're joking, Dave, but since I used to commute from Brooklyn to New Brunswick and back: it's about an hour for 37 miles by train or car.  The NJ Transit train from midtown Manhattan deposits you there in about an hour (when it's working; it was riddled with problems when Corzine was governor and is probably worse now).  By car, my commute was about 30 minutes to drive the five or so miles out of Brooklyn, another ten minutes through Staten Island, then the actual Jersey part -- the most mileage by far -- was only about 20 minutes.

I read in the Daily News this morning that the hugely talented FOT Neil Numberman will be at the Queens-Whitestone library today at 4pm for an art workshop for older kids.  Details here.

For all two of you who are into prose poems: I'm the "featured poet" in the winter issue of Matrix magazine, which just came out like a week ago. This is possibly one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. I think you can buy the magazine at most bookstores in Canada (including Chapters/Indigo-type places) but I'm not sure about the states. It's a really awesome magazine all in all and I'd definitely recommend checking it out even if you are not into giant paragraphs pretending to be poems - this issue has a great interview with George Saunders + other fun stuff.

Also tomorrow night I'm reading at the Pilot, which is Matrix's monthly reading series thing, with some really amazingly scarily talented people (Kevin Connolly! David McGimpsey! Aaaaah!). It's at Sparrow on St-Laurent, and I think the doors are at 8pm. If you find yourself bored and in Montreal tomorrow night you should come say hello! But no pressure or anything.

my friend's record label is launching a music site in a month.

I'll be blogging about music and doing some record reviews for the site as well as having my own show Death Cult Radio. it'll just be a streaming thing, prerecorded, not live unfortunately but I'm mostly just going to be playing music. I'll also be doing a post show wrap-up blog where i'll be writing about the stuff I'm playing.
