I know you're joking, Dave, but since I used to commute from Brooklyn to New Brunswick and back: it's about an hour for 37 miles by train or car. The NJ Transit train from midtown Manhattan deposits you there in about an hour (when it's working; it was riddled with problems when Corzine was governor and is probably worse now). By car, my commute was about 30 minutes to drive the five or so miles out of Brooklyn, another ten minutes through Staten Island, then the actual Jersey part -- the most mileage by far -- was only about 20 minutes.
