Kansas folks (especially from Lawrence) are usually pretty good folks when it comes to football.  They're obnoxious when they're talking about basketball.

I was wondering if Leno and Conan were going to eat balls tonight.  At least Leno is known for his stand up a little.

ok, I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm so damn excited for the last regular season weekend of football.  OU demolished Texas Tech, jumped ahead of Texas in the human polls, but is .008 or so behind in the BCS.  This weekend, Texas plays A&M and we play at OSU.  If we win, even by a point, we should jump Texas.  OSU has played us tough in the last decade+, so this isn't a given.

I'm so excited.

Don't rule the Gators out yet - a win against Alabama (easier said than done, admittedly) in the SEC Championship game would put us up there in BCS rankings. This is about as excited as I get about this sport.

If Florida beats Alabama we'll probably see a rematch in the BCS championship which would suck. Playoffs are long overdue but I don't think anybody except the people who make cash off the bowls would argue with that.

alabama/florida will work itself out.  if alabama loses, they'll drop like a roc.  nobody likes saban, so theyw ould take a beating in the human polls.

right now I think fla/ou would be the most entertaining game.

Agreed.

Florida should beat Alabama by about 20, so a rematch is maybe, hopefully, out of the question.

Now that UNC has returned to earth, this is by far the most interesting comment I could make about college football, other than that I am very tired of Oklahoma-Florida-Texas national championship permutations.  At least Ohio State is out, and it looks like deathly dull USC is, too.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Between this victory over Texas Tech and his three American Music Awards, Chris Brown is having the Best Week Ever.

I fucking hate football commentators.

in the same breath they're saying how A&M has the 5th worst run defense in D1A and then saying that the Texas offense is methodically marching up and down the field.

I also like the comment about how Texas has a different way of dominating a football game; one that doesn't necessarily involve scoring a lot of points.

holy shit.

I'm hoping like hell Alabama beats Florida for completely selfish reasons.

Also, I admit that the tie breaker system for the Big XII sucks, but it got to the 5th tiebreaker before it was decided, so I don't know what else you could do.  I hate how ESPN/ABC had Mack Brown on everything, it seemed totally classless.  They couldn't bring up the head to head enough (and it was the only reason anybody ever gave as to why they ranked Texas above us), but they didn't call Mike Leech during the UT/A&M game to let him politic.  It was just sickening to me, but obviously I'm biased.

Now I just hope we don't get embarrassed down the road as Stoops in known to let happen.  What a fucking great season so far.

I'm interested in Barack Obama's plan to fix the BCS and have college football use playoffs instead of a thousand bowl games at the end of the season.  He literally said he's going to use his weight to change this.  God I love him.

A true playoff in college football would be horrible, although I think that the +1 system could work.

  • The regular season is as tense, exciting, and popular as the playoffs in most sports. The NCAA would basically be sacrificing huge audiences throughout the season to gamble that people will still watch meaningless games at the end of the season and stay interested in seeing a few teams play week after week in a playoff.

  • All but one (MLB) of our major sports leagues (NFL, NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLS, NCAA football and mens' and womens' basketball) have post-seasons that involve about half of the teams in the league. This is more exciting for more fans, than, say a sixteen team playoff drawn out over seven or eight weeks.

  • Teams that qualify for a bowl can practice for another month, allowing coaches to evaluate returning players for next year.

  • The chance of playing in any kind of bowl game is a huge recruiting tools for smaller, less historically successful schools.
