No single-disc Faces?

I still need to get around to buying the whole Cassavetes box set.  I've seen everything on it except Shadows.  I couldn't finish that lousy documentary.

Also, according to DVD Savant Husbands is supposedly coming out in 08/09 as part of some series called "Martini Movies."  Whatever, I just hope it's the longer version.

Criterion needs to focus less on reissuing movies they've already put out and working on putting movies that still aren't on DVD. A few that come to mind are the African Queen and the Magnificent Ambersons.

Yeah, seriously. Can't anyone get the ball rolling on that one?

I have a great special edition R2 DVD of The African Queen. I'm surprised to hear it's not yet released in North America.

October 2008 lineup:

I'm happy. More Melville is always a good thing.

Anyways, I watched Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters last night. Holy moley, that was spectacular.

Well, they can't just license anything they want.  I have no idea what the rights situations are w/ those two.   This is pure speculation, but maybe they save the reissues for lean months when they need to pad out the schedule?

Good, now Netflix will finally have copies of Woman Under the Influence and Killing of a Chinese Bookie. I'll probably have to wait months to actually get them like Thief of Baghdad.

Does anybody have any inside information about when the original Wim Wenders stuff (In The Course of Time, Alice in the Cities, etc) will be re-released on DVD?  And how about Jean Eustache's catalog?

Haha, yeah I know what you mean. I'll see posts sometime by people going "CRITERION SHOULD MAKE A DVD FOR THAT" on IMDB, as if the company just says "Let's do Star Wars next!"

I think the Magnificent Ambersons may be in public domain, as quite a few Orson Welles movies are. I see why Criterion may be reluctant to put out movies that  people could get for free, but they've done a great job with lots of public domain titles (like M). African Queen is now domestically owned by Paramount Pictures, who I don't think have any Criterions.
