yeah. why do I live in Oklahoma again?
maybe you like those trees that look like regular trees but when you get up close you see they're covered in thorns? (I went to boot camp at Fort Sill)
weird. I never would have taken you for a field artillery guy.
I'm from Lawton and I'm not ashamed to say that it's the armpit of the universe. I hope you got to look around the state a little more than just Lawton. The OKC area is 1000 times better, but still not as beautiful as those pics.
Mine was a field artillery unit, so I got sent through there for basic training. I was a 92Y (supply guy: I drove a truck around, got stuff, organized storerooms, fixed rifles, and filled out paperwork 5% of the time, and told dirty jokes 95% of the time) and went to AIT at the much more pleasant Fort Lee VA, which is also the home of cooks, morticians, and parachute repairmen. My guard unit was theoretically a howitzer unit (later MLRS) but when we were activated it was always just to stand around and drive trucks, never to blow shit up.
Contrary to the mouth-breathing stereotype of field artillery guys, a lot of the people in my unit were really sharp. If you want to be in the reserves you have to pick a job that the unit in your town actually does.
My only other OK experience has been driving through on I-40 and I-44. I had pretty good pizza there. As a state for driving through, top notch. Quality gas stations and motels, relatively few feed lot and slaughterhouse smells to drive through.
