i always think of a giant man saying the store name into a speaker system with booming reverberation  when i go to c town.

like "C TOWN!          town!               town.              town...            town..."

maybe you like those trees that look like regular trees but when you get up close you see they're covered in thorns?  (I went to boot camp at Fort Sill)

It's been an amazing autumn, hasn't it? My backyard isn't as lovely as this, but this photo does accurately capture the last 6 weeks or so around here. I really don't remember the last time we had such beautiful fall colours. Nice photos, Beth.

Damn all of you with your "seasons" and your "foliage".

I'm jealous.

Thanks all you guys!

And yes, Bryan it has been an especially beautiful autumn. I'm really thankful for where I live, despite the fact that I'm in the middle of nowhere. We have an insanely good deal on our place, because our landlord has money and the farmhouse is paid off (and again, we're in the middle of nowhere).

I am so happy to have the experience of living in such blissful solitude, even if we don't stay here forever. The pros outweigh the cons.

weird.  I never would have taken you for a field artillery guy.

I'm from Lawton and I'm not ashamed to say that it's the armpit of the universe. I hope you got to look around the state a little more than just Lawton.  The OKC area is 1000 times better, but still not as beautiful as those pics.

The Bay Area definitely has its attractions, but lately I find myself totally forgetting what time of year it is. We have hot days. We have foggy days. Occasionally it rains. There's not much rhyme or reason to the timing of these occurrences.

I have buddies who moved to LA and loved it, but it seems like hell to me.  No seasons would drive me crazy.

Mine was a field artillery unit, so I got sent through there for basic training.  I was a 92Y (supply guy:  I drove a truck around, got stuff, organized storerooms, fixed rifles, and filled out paperwork 5% of the time, and told dirty jokes 95% of the time) and went to AIT at the much more pleasant Fort Lee VA, which is also the home of cooks, morticians, and parachute repairmen.  My guard unit was theoretically a howitzer unit (later MLRS) but when we were activated it was always just to stand around and drive trucks, never to blow shit up.

Contrary to the mouth-breathing stereotype of field artillery guys, a lot of the people in my unit were really sharp.  If you want to be in the reserves you have to pick a job that the unit in your town actually does.

My only other OK experience has been driving through on I-40 and I-44.  I had pretty good pizza there.  As a state for driving through, top notch.  Quality gas stations and motels, relatively few feed lot and slaughterhouse smells to drive through.

ah, you were in the reserves.  A lot of my buddies were reservists who were field artillery, and my wife's dad was the commanding officer at Reynolds Hospital down there.

i've lived a year in LA and the no seasons thing is really nuts. it makes it hard for me to gauge when exactly certain things happened in my memory. it feels like the last year all took place in the summer.

i can't wait to move back to jersey in december and get some much needed snow back into my system
