I wouldn't have done better, so I'm going to munch my popcorn and try not to get crumbs on my lap.

Or rats.

And speaking of which, I was at the movies last night and a couple rats decided to get into a wrestling match at the end my aisle. It was disconcerting, and I missed parts of the ending.

Ha ha!
When rats watch violent films like Hellboy, it's puts terrible ideas in their heads. They're like little clay pots that need moulding so they don't act out what they see on screen.

Caught a free screening of this Monday night at the Lincoln Center Lowes -- it was sort of like watching Pan's Labyrinth creatures fly around and destroy things for no reason.

Decent fun. I wouldn't have paid money to see it though.

The "golden army" was kind of a golden letdown. They might have been powerful when Elves walked the earth, but they didn't seem like a world conquering robot army to me.

Is anybody else bothered by Perlman/Del Toro's interpretation of Hellboy? I loved Hellboy in the comics, but in the movies he just seems like a big baby.

Plus not as awesome looking.

I want to see it. I'm not really much of a comic book reader, but I liked the first movie a whole lot.

I concur. And I loved Pan's, so that sweetens the deal.

I really enjoyed it.

Until I saw that Seth MacFarlane did the voice of Krauss.

Alright, it was still awesome.

I liked it overall, despite minor qualms.

And I kind of liked Seth MacFarlane as Krauss, SO THERE. TAKE THAT.

I loved the scene where Hellboy and Abe get tanked.

I don't read comics and have no emotional investment in Hellboy. That being said, I had a grudging affection for Hellboy 1, mostly due to my love of Ron Perlman's ridiculous face, and Frasier's brother that was that fish man or whatever he was.

Supposedly Hyde-Pearce was so impressed by the job of physical acting achieved by the actor inside water-boy's suit that he refused to be credited, insisting that the other guy (who I think is a Jones, but who knows which one. Dean?) receive the SAG points.

Is that true? David Hyde-Pearce is such a cool guy.

If IMDB can be trusted, there's this

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0427964/bio

"Although his voice as 'Abe Sapien' in Hellboy (2004) was dubbed by David Hyde Pierce, David refused a credit because he felt that Abe was entirely Doug's creation and did not wish to detract from his performance."

So I say YES

im looking forward to seeing the same characters del toro used in pan's labyrinth, now in hellboy 2.

I too thought the same thing. I was impressed by the style in Pan's Labyrinth but can't he change his fantasy characters at least a little from one movie to the next?

If they do another Hellboy movie the need to include the Babba Yagga, Roger the Homunculus, and Lobster Johnson.

Johann Krauss was the shit.  That character had me in stitches everytime he was on screen.  I am still kind of tying to figure out why.  There were some wonky story elements but overall, I really enjoyed Hellboy 2.
