I've always had mixed feelings about that one.

Although, Let's Spend The Night Together is always fun.

Apparently, Muddy felt the same way.

I've heard that Phil Upchurch (who plays guitar on the album) refuses to talk about it or answer questions about it. Stupid blues purists.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I've just finished watching some Royal Headache videos on YouTube and I must say - these guys are a bit of all right. Man, what a difference a really good vocalist makes.

Yeah the singer for Royal Headache is incredible and the album is front-to-back hits. I hate the way it was recorded though, all blown out, why do they do that?

I got to see them last year in SF and didn't expect them to come back so soon since they are from Australia but they are touring the states again now, heads up!!!

Yeah, it's a little bit more horrifying than I thought it would be.

Bruce Springsteen doing "The Weight" in tribute to Levon Helm, on YouTube from the other night in Newark.

Not my favorite Band song, rendition a little stiff, and the E Street Band ain't The Band, but a lovely gesture by a great American.

Not a fan of that whole thing either, sad to say. SOOOO many indie rock bands are overdoing the tin can-reverb effect on the vocals and doing that fake-analog distortion thing....it's getting out of hand. GBV already covered (perfected?) that technique, guys; it's no longer innovative to make your records sound like shit on purpose.

Anyone else remember this one, which is sort of the 90s version of Electric Mud? I don't even like JSBX that much, but I fucking love this album.

I play that one often.  Electric Mud comparison kind of a stretch though.

Older blues musician collaborates with hip younger rock musicians in an attempt to reach their audience. It doesn't seem like a terribly huge stretch to me. True, the two don't sound especially alike, but they are both very much products of their time.

Well, OK.  I was thinking of the sound.  And, while both may have been efforts to acquaint younger audiences with old blues guys, the pure crassness of the commercial calculations behind each.

Mebbe I would think of the Burnside as more like John Lee Hooker recording with Canned Heat--in neither case did the older artist compromise his music too much.

I've been listening to the complete Motown singles box sets, 1958-1971. And by complete, I mean over 1500 songs. It has taken me over a year. I'm on the last disc!
