I am in Nashville, on ugly state business, where I will have to argue, in vain undoubtedly, against a libertarian movement in the state legislature that will further weaken public higher education in the state. Unable to sleep, I have been up since 4am, working on my argument. Since I need to be in fighting mode, I have had this on repeat. It's now playing for the 4th time.

Thank you, Mr Rockstar and your gang.

I've been listening to this on Shuffle a lot. I like how much variety it has.

I'm currently listening to a KRANG live jam on their myspace http://www.myspace.com/krangtheband
While that may make them sound like a jam band a la phish, they most definitely are not.

Tennessee is on the way out, Dave.  Flee across the border while there's still time.  Dave from Asheville wouldn't be that different from Dave from Knoxville.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

That would be closer to my mother-in-law. How about Wilmington? We already have a house there.

Spoon's new album, Transference. I've listed through about six or eight times now and I still can't make up my mind. I want to like it cause they're trying to push their sound in a new direction, but I have to admit that underneath all the interesting noises the songs themselves are pretty undercooked.

Wilmington is awesome.  Go for it.  Be Dave from Wrightsville.

"Our" place is near Monkey Junction, if you know the area well. Or Masonboro.

I don't know.  Dave from Monkey Junction is not going to go over well with my the effort to improve NC's image.

Dave from Lizard Lick, though.

Scooped up a worn copy of this bad boy at amoeba today.

from some blog: "Released to commemorate the 1969 Memphis Blues Festival, Memphis Swamp Jam features 20 songs by the event's most notable performers. However, this is not a live album. Although the tracks date from the same period as the festival, they were recorded at Ardent Recording Studio and Royal Recording Studio in Memphis. Chris Strachwitz produced this two-LP set, and it marks one of the few occasions (if not only) when he worked in this capacity for a company other than his own Arhoolie Records. The likely idea behind this production was to release it on a label with greater distribution capability than Strachwitz's in an effort to give the musicians wider exposure to the record-buying public. 1969, of course, was a year well known for its numerous music festivals. The blues revival that had begun earlier in the decade was at its apex. With many in the counterculture embracing old blues singers as the spiritual fathers of particular rock & roll musicians, the timing seemed right for a release such as this.

Judging by the quality of the performances, the artists on Memphis Swamp Jam seemed to sense the importance of this project. Sure, you've probably heard different versions of these same songs on other releases by the featured musicians. However, they all seem to go that extra mile on this album perhaps aware that they were now recording for something other than small specialty labels."

Bukka White,  Piano Red, Nathan Beauregard, Sleepy John Estes, Fred McDowell & Johnny Woods, Napoleon Stickland (featuring Otha Turner), Furry Lewis, and RL Watson & Josiah Jones.

I'm currently listening to Stones Throw Podcast #53 - Minimal Wave. It's a promo mix for the upcoming Minimal Wave Tapes, Vol. 1 on Stones Throw Records. It's pretty damn good and I'm definitely going to pick up the album.

My favorite new record is South Rakkas Crew - The Stimulus Package. Lots of rave influenced reggae and dancehall. It can be downloaded for free at http://www.maddecent.com/stimulus/

I just grabbed the South Rakkas Crew after reading your post earlier. I love the track built around Deerhoof's Choo Choo Beep Beep.

The image didn't come to the party. Can we get a clue?

It was definitely shocking to see Deerhoof on the tracklist when I downloaded the album. Strangely enough, I think it's one of the strongest and most enjoyable tracks on The Stimulus Package.

If you're looking for more SRC, I'd recommend picking up their first album, The Mix Up. South Rakkas also just remixed most of Tricky's new album - you can find the album by searching for Tricky Meets South Rakkas Crew. Both are very, very good.

I'm listening to Tom's session with Dr. Fred Meyers on Scharpling and Wurster at the Speed of Sound.  What a privilege to be able to peer into his inner life this way.
