I really like this song by St. Vincent (and the video featuring F. Armisen and C. Brownstein). Tell me, popsters, is the song indicative of the rest of the album?

I really love that record, Martin. I think this song is fairly representative, although often the sort of swirling background orchestration/noise takes a more prominent role in the mix.

This songs a great representation, if you can access it from not-America

The song is called The Strangers, if you can't access this link.

Thanks, Dave - that sounds pretty interesting.

The whole album is available on eMusic, so I'll probably get it there eventually.

Paging TE, re: real hiphop. This is what you want.

Holy s-hit. This is so good. Madlib is on FIYAH. First candidate for album of the year, in my book.

They played some stuff from that on a recent 'Stone's Throw' podcast, it sounded great.

Some people say this one is better than Crazy Rhythms. It's AS GOOD. I don't know about better. It is really fucking great, though.

Their first three albums are all great, IMO. Although, I think The Good Earth might be my favorite.

I absolutely love this album.

I'm with you on the Zevon love. It's weird, as similar as his stuff is to Randy Newman (who I DO NOT LIKE AT ALL), I really find myself enjoying his stuff lately. There's such an enchanting nastiness to some of his stuff, like "Play It All Night Long," where he says, "Sweet Home Alabama, play that dead band's song."
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Oh, and I'm currently playing the LA Nuggets box, which I finally picked up last night. It's stellar, although my enjoyment is being somewhat tempered by the fact that the packaging caused the discs to get all beat up at some point in the process of getting from the factory to me.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I like Zevon.  I've seen him criticized, especially for his more emotional numbers - "Carmelita," "Desperadoes Under the Eaves," but the critics are wrong.

One thing you can tell for sure: anything you like, someone (probably many someones) hates it for the exact same reason you like it.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

What a magnificent fucking album! I listen to it maybe every other month and every single time it feels as exciting as listening to it for the first time.
