What a magnificent fucking album! I listen to it maybe every other month and every single time it feels as exciting as listening to it for the first time.

Yup. Totally agree.

So, who else on here is using lala? I just found it a week or so ago, and I think it's pretty great-- if anyone is interested in starting/joining a cool kids club on there, lemme know.

Banco De Gaia, Starstation Earth

It came up in my search for 'Big Star'.

Don't judge.

Listened to some of the new Joanna Newsom album and... liked it?  She sounds more in control of her voice now; more Joni Mitchell-ish.  I wonder how the forest creature community is taking it.

still rules as much as it did back when I was listening to it on repeat all day (almost literally)-- I can't believe it's almost ten years old.

I love that album too, BUT (and I'm going to sound like a record snob now) the only version of it I listen to is the original, never-officially-released white label entitled GIMIX - which is essentially Since I Left You before they cleared the samples (and had to cut lots and lots of samples from the record). It's amazing, one of the best party albums ever. I almost can't listen to the official release now without hearing what's missing.

Thanks Martin, I didn't know about GIMIX and now can't wait to find it.

I was thinking a couple months ago about how nothing in electronic music the last few years penetrated my consciousness the way Boards of Canada's Geogaddi and the Avalanches did early last decade. I don't know if there's anything similarly trippy and/or great that didn't really break through.  I don't really follow the genre except occasionally people like Fennesz or ambient stuff like Tim Hecker.

Boards of Canada is absolutely sublime. I once tried to describe their music to someone, and blurted out that it sounds at once archaic/ancient, and like it was made in the year 3000. Like music I grew up listening to, and at the same time music I've never heard before. (I also love the mystery that surrounds them, the fact that they almost never give interviews, that they're two brothers from a remote Scottish island, etc.)

I am listening to the Rhythm Incursions podcast from Resonance FM. My favorite music podcast ever. I hardly ever delete the old episodes, as I will go back and listen to them again.

I have listened to it as well. It's not too bad. But I think her voice is a bit of an acquired taste.
