Speaking of F'd Up, for those who haven't heard, Matador is doing a Buy Early, Get Now for David Comes to Life. For $30 CD/$35 vinyl, you get the album on the release date, a digital download of 5 non-LP tracks, an early digital download of the album (released in 4 parts, 1 part per day on May 10 - 13), a digital download of David's Town, and 4 exclusive 7"s of non-LP tracks.

Sorry if this sounds like an ad for the album, but it's a pretty good deal and also exciting for a record nerd like me.

I got this and I'm listening to the first part of the album right now.  Incredible stuff.

I'm only on my first listen, but it seems like a huge step up. Really impressive. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I just picked up Wanda Jackson's The Party Ain't Over, produced by Jack White.  A few decent tracks, but her "Nervous Breakdown" cover totally sucks fudge.  Keith Morrison is rolling over in his grave!

"This record will make you want to take acid again, even if the last time you took acid you walked around naked in your college dorm screaming that you were about to give birth to your sister's child. That was a weird night...."

DC Item of the Week a few weeks back. Liking it a lot.

It's streaming http://www.npr.org/2011/05/12/136220377/first-listen-kate-bush-directors-cut?sc=fb&cc=fmp

I picked up used copies of The Sensual World and The Red Shoes on RSD, but unlike Hounds of Love, I wasn't really feeling these two albums immediately; there are great songs, but they sound really dated. I am LOVING Director's Cut though.

Now that I have all of David Comes to Life, I can say this to F'd Up:

YOU DID IT AGAIN.

I listened to that new Kate Bush record today, too.  I've had "Red Shoes" and "Sensual World" for a few years now and I really liked them, I was really looking forward to an update of some of her more underrated material, but "the director's cut" just seemed really unnecessary.     While the songs no longer have that early 90s timestamp to them, it was really disheartening to hear everything transposed down, and the new arrangements ranged from boring ("This Woman's Work") to cringeworthy ("Rubberband Girl").  God bless Kate for keeping going, and I can't wait to hear the record of new material.

And what a crappy time-stamp that can be. That's what kills me about those two albums; the lyrics, the singing, the structure of those songs are great, but the sound is sooooo dated, and I'm still not sure whether I love the Clapton guitar work or whether it's the laziest thing I have ever heard. I think I read that she wanted to move towards a more live-band sound as opposed to the layered Fairlight CMI sound of Hounds Of Love, which I love because there is so much going on in those songs, and melodies and elements that flow through that album. I think the new versions have a more cohesive sound.

And I still think Prince should have done the vocals for "Rubberband Girl" (both versions).
