I am always disappointed whenever I see greatest-songs-ever lists, and Waiting for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago never gets a mention. That first record is an underappreciated gem, as well. And Just Got Paid is incredible, if only for the drumwork.

I've been listening to ZZ Top's first 6 albums. It's occurred to me that today a band described as 'blues rock' would be the last thing I'd want to listen to, but I love those old ZZ Top records.

These records are full-on ragin'. Did you know they brought cattle on tour/on stage with them in '75? WTF?

As you might guess from my avatar, I also like ZZ Top. But not until Master of Sparks adopted me during my short-lived tenure as a WFMU "DJ" and I got curious and got the LP of "Tres Hombres" for four bucks at a weird-smelling record store in Walla Walla.

And right now I am getting my daily dose of:
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

The baby loves it. Her older sister (who is not even 4 and is already a music snob) does not.

Yeah, I think they were trying to simulate Texas onstage. 'Tres Hombres' is my favorite album of theirs, but I'll check out Rythmeen on Master Of Sparks' recommendation. I've been listening to the 'Six Pack' comp, which actually has the first 7 minus Deguello.

Six Pack unfortunately tinkers with the original mixes of those early albums to give them an Eliminator-like sheen (it's most noticeable on the drums). It's best to try and locate original vinyl copies (or digital rips from original pressings - these shouldn't be too hard to track down, but I can point those who need help in the right direction). Rhino did remasters that restored the original drum tracks to Tres Hombres and Fandango! a few years back, and I was hoping they'd do the same for the others, but it hasn't happened yet.

My favorite album of theirs changes quite often, but right now it's Tejas. It's definitely the sleeper in their catalogue, but it's worth a listen.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Tres Hombres is a masterpiece.

Really, I don't see how anyone could dislike ZZ Top. Same goes for CCR.

May've missed its mention, but ZZ Top at Rockpalast is TOPS. Monstrous guitar sound, like a tidal wave of burnt fudge smashing you in the face. Check it!

Good god, that ZZ Top Rockpalast show is incredible.  Thanks for posting that clip, Scot.  I love that band.

Right now I'm listening to Oxbow: Stone & Towering Edifice -  Live at the Bam.

Just got it yesterday and am blown away by it.  I like hearing Oxbow in acoustic mode, and this one is at least as good as the 12 Galaxies disc that came out a while back.

Today's going to be a Jawbreaker and J Church kinda day.

If that J Church album One Mississippi was cut by about 1/3rd (it has about 36 songs on it) it would be widely hailed as a masterpiece. THERE I SAID IT!
