To combine The Clash talk with the earlier Pub Rock talk, I recommend The 101'ers:

1948 to 1980 is a pretty broad span of time for 'early gurus', but it sounds interesting anyway.

Just now giving this guy a listen and WOW. I am scurrying to buy all the reissues before they go out of print. His voice is hypnotic.

Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

More specifically, the 1997 re-recording of "In Color" produced by Steve Albini.

Good one again Nec, I like the clarinet on "I Want You To Want Me".

Currently, I am listening to this regarding Mr. Welles: http://castroller.com/Podcasts/StuffYouMissed/2480543

More specifically, the 1997 re-recording of "In Color" produced by Steve Albini.

I had no idea they re-recorded "Cheap Trick in Color" with Albini. Man, I really need to hear that as I Liked Albini's production on the "Baby Talk/ Brontosaurus" single. Did they re-do some of the other, older stuff like "Heaven Tonight"?

ETA: Found a copy. Thank you for turning me on to this. They actually sound like a live band on it. Sometimes I thinkAlbini's production crowds the band out in favor of getting a general sound. But he works so well woth Cheap Trick-- much like he did on the  Pixies album "Surfer Rosa" or any of his Jesus Lizard stuff

Thank you again......

Albini's version of "Southern Girls" is a triumph.

Weird fun.

I'm uncomfortable.
