Best: P.C. Mike called. Loved hearing his Klosterman imitation. Worst: Mike from Scranton. Who's that?

The guy asking if Borat is a celebrity... I wanted to assume it was a gag but it did not seem like it. One of those hilarious and maddening things you cannot really wrap your head around.

Great show, great guest callers but I think my favorite moment was when Tom was beginning to Bad Company a guy, but then immediately cut off the song as the caller said that Tom had given his Production company a cool name.  That immediate mute of Bad Company after a complement was hilarious to me.  Plus we got the Billy Joel Sucks story out of it. Then the kid got gomped!

Most baffling call of the night was that marble-mouthed guy who called to talk about the beatles and his grandmother. Was that a prank? I think he's called before.

"Best Show, you're on the air."
"Hey, what's up Tom?"
"Not a whole lot, who's this?"
"This is Jim, but you can call me Homer."
"I can call you Homer."
"Yeah."
"Why would I call you Homer?"
"Ah, that's what my friends call me."
"Let me get to know you a little bit better before I call you Homer, if you don't mind."
"Awright, you got it Tom.  I just wanted to say it's cool that you got NRBQ to do the theme song."
"Yeah man, my favorite band."
"Yeah, what album's that on, is that 'Grooves in Orbit', right?"
"Um, it's on an album called 'Fourth Rate Bar Rock - Greatest Hits' "
"What's that, 89, right?"
"It's a career encompassing box set. It has everything they ever recorded on it."
"So how much did you have to pay those guys?"
"Um, I paid them in Dr. Pepper."
"Dr. Pepper, that's good man, Dr. Pepper."
"Yeah, that's why I said it. That's why it was good."
"Yeah man, I..."
(Tom hangs up).

Wikipedia guy is the best caller of the new show era so far.

Come to think of it, I don't think people can edit their own Wikipedia page.

JW's call last night was, quite literally, a work of art, and one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

YES. I felt like the entire show really was a marvel, one of the best ever.  Which is flat-out remarkable after so many years.

In the sound collage there was a clip from a radio show or podcast that Tom appeared on and the host said something like "why is your show a phenomenon because from that clip I'm not buying it?". Anyone know what that was from?

Gregory has the details right.  You can hear the interview here; Best Show discussion (such as it is) begins around 10:10:

It's Leonard Lopate, from WNYC in New York.  He's a big cheese on New York's NPR.  His show is very popular.  Personally, I hate his guts.  I find him intolerably pretentious, and it only makes sense that he would say something condescending about Tom and his patented brand of Hard Hat Radio.

Agreed on Lopate, but I wonder if it's possible to "get" TBS right off the bat? I sort of fled the first time I heard it, but something drew me back and then I was there...weird

I hear that. Plus, that's a really weird clip. It's just a clip of him ramping up the show. Like if you tried to recommend Conan O'brien by showing the little string dance to people.
