RE: Dirtbag List

Who does Kim Fowley have to bleep to get on this list? Because he'd bleep it.
Yeah.  Why?

The cumber-whipping sound effect might be the scariest one to date.

There's another station in the NY/NJ market on which a weekly show dealing with group harmony ("don't call it doo-wop!") periodically descends into surreal harangues involving vague criticisms of people in this very narrow scene, and rants about how the divisive haters can't destroy the love that keeps it together, etc.

I kept feeling like the barbershop scene politics aspect of last night's Wurster call was a total send-up of this, though that is surely not the case.  All I kept thinking was that there has to be someone out there who has just about this much complaint to offer about something in the barbershop community and is completely sincere about it.

Sometimes good comedy is just telling the truth in a funny voice.

How does one pick one, single great moment? I'll go with Zacharay Brimstead's "It takes too long to wrap [his cumberbund] around my bountiful carriage."

Great great show.  Interesting guests and no callers.

I had to explain to my 7yr old daughter what "Barbershop" music was so I tried to find some on the youtubes but the first thing that came up was Jimmy Fallon doing barbershop versions of reggae songs and I was thinking Fallon is totally biting Brimstead! Without the girth, sadly.

Wow! I was just fumbling with my iPhone and somehow restarted the podcast from the beginning with the playing speed set to 1.5X and both theme songs were even more AWESOMELY EXCITING than usual--try it!

Unfortunately, "Open Mike" is already the name of Canada's greatest talk show.

Stumbled across this clip on Youtube. Apparently there was once a Woolery-Dolenz alliance. I hope for Tom's sake it no longer exists. Hate to think his relationship with Mickey could be a ruse perpetrated by Chuck.

By the way, how come "Circle Sky" isn't one of those songs that every punk band covers? It just seems like such a natural idea.

Oh, non caller show, how I loved thee.

The guest were uniformly awesome (even if like me, you don't know squat about the Monkees, Kitchen Nightmares or Enlightened) but to not have bits of the show stall/tank due to shitty callers was just lovely.

Don't get me wrong, the good callers make for good listens and some shitty callers getting dealt with is fun but it sure was nice to have a break from both.
