That cracked me up. (As did the rest of the conversation, with the talk of Casino 2: Back at the Table. But pulling out Miami Blues was one of those genius moments that caught me completely off guard.)

Oh, man was Tom ever sharp and quick with Spike last night. And when he said, "Casino 2: Back at the Table", I did a quick, "Wait...is that a real sequel!?"

And Steve/Shane. Holy moley that was inspired.

Edit: But if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be that girl who bought her wiseass brother a Mr. Bungle tee shirt for Christmas. Oh god, and Andy from Baaaaath's Southern accent! Tears of laughter!!

regarding shawn/shane: i felt like such a jerk listening to it because when they started my first thought was that it was just a recycle of the old big bill/little bill/mr sherbet call.(one of my favorite of all time) then of course in classic S&W style they turned it around and brought it to such weirder and more amazing places. I'll never doubt them again.

I enjoyed all the Xanadu talk. If you put that place in a spaceship, and maybe replaced the Cabela's with the pinball museum, it'd make for a really great multi-generational interstellar travel machine.

So much great stuff last night: the shocking redemption of Andy From Bath, the Who's On First-esque "It's Complicated" discussion with Spike, Xanadu and everything with Steve/Shane, but especially the casual way he/they dropped the "oh yeah, this is one of those two heads on one body situations" revelation.

I was also moved by the final segment with Mike and what sounded like a heartfelt plea about his new place in the world. I almost feel bad for calling him a Leper Messiah in the chat right when that started. Almost!

Someone please feel free to sprinkle "Jean-Michael" through the above paragraphs.

I literally laugh out loud at the idea of a cooking show on the radio. To hear it live put me on the floor.
I think that the funniest moments on the show are when a guest or visitor makes loud noises on a mic while Tom tries to carry on.

There's a for-real one on NPR called The Splendid Table. My wife likes it and ignores me when I point out the absurdity of the idea.

This is why I leave the NPR for "the eggheads." My roommate is all about NPR, This American Life and Savage Love and a constant stream of vegan 'pajama podcasts.' She's never given TBSOWFMU a try but I don't think she'd respect Tom's brute force. He'd have to lisper just to draw her attention.
