Nice job, Bowie!  How did you find that?  What search terms?

Glad you enjoyed it! I nerd out pretty hard when it comes to research. . .

Laurie from Miami would be proud to know that I found the article using the NYT Historical database through my public library's website. From there I searched "David Newman" and limited it to articles from 1990 to the present. The first or second result was the winning ticket. Research databases – gotta love 'em!

I am proud of you, too!  I'm a pretty top-notch Internet researcher - it's part of what I do for a living - but their website does not seem to be up to snuff.  Glad to hear that the local liberry still has something on the impersonal intranets.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Sad to hear about Tom's basement. It says a lot about Tom's skill as a broadcaster that even something so heartbreaking can be turned into a story used to, essentially, entertain us all. For example the "Come here Kitty. You want this Wipers CD" line creased me up. [And the cat clearly doesn't know it's Wipers discography because the Is This Real? CD (including the Alien Boy EP) is THE one to have]

Also, the hybrid car gang idea.

And of course, Roy. Gotta love that dude.

Could someone remind me of the movie Tom and the caller were talking about that rivaled Class of 1984?

I just relistened to the show and Tom's voice when he says "My Fanzines" makes my heart wrench. Losing your art is just too much to bear, especially when dorks like us would have given anything to have those compiled and released as an anthology.

A high point among many last night: The one huge body in Coma that is only an inch off the ground.

Amazing show. Best Hodgman appearance ive heard. Given the theme, I could easily hear John giving this a better pitch:
