Best: Wurster's DRI drum bit in the middle of that furious call was unreal. Also, the Michael Caine/Memento stuff.

Worst: Billy Joel defenders, not b/c they were defending Billy Joel per se, but just because of, yeah, the AV CLUB dude attitude. The WORST type of person. I question what these people get out of the show, sometimes.

I think these last few shows have been cool and low-key with so much tough stuff going on in Tom's life. Kudos to him for staying with it and trucking through the shows.

The worst was the Graham Parker caller, just an AV club comment coming to life in the form of a Best Show caller. Also, 90% of the callers were dudes who all kinda sounded alike.

Actually if I had to pick a second favorite moment it would be from the Graham Parker call. I had a few drinks so I'm not sure but I believe it was:

"You're a judgemental little twerp, aren't you?"

Six dollars American says they all look alike too.

I remember the episode that the Graham Parker dude was calling about. Tom's exact words were "Graham Parker never did anything for me".

How can you argue with that? I could understand if he said that Graham Parker was a hack but he didn't!

It's pretty much my opinion on him too. I heard a couple songs and thought "eh... I guess I can see why it's good but it doesn't move me one way or another" What did that guy want? For us to apologize for not being moved by Graham Parker? Get over it.

I don't get it, didn't Tom tell Kid Ebay he was really in to Graham Parker?

Could Mit Hamine have been responsible for 'Worn'?

Tom finally mentioning Monk, the bands JW were in,  many of which brought back hilarious memories ("I love you the ghost of Anne B Davis", etc), and really enjoyed Tom's humor and honesty on the family services, post movie watching,  and echo and the bunnymen listening sadness. I could definitely relate.  Really great show front to back.  That foo fighters stuff was hilarious.

Paraphrasing:

"Prince took everybody in two school buses to see that movie Noah."

"Hold on."

Totally laughed out loud when Tom said "Hold on."

I think I have a new favorite Jon call. Simply amazing!

This call had my jaw dropped with how funny/well-crafted it was, maybe my favorite one as well.

"Christopher Nolan's AP Mike is Michael Caine."

Also, would be interested in checking out Eminence Front, the late-period Who tribute. Kenney Jones took a lot of grief for his time trying to do the impossible job of replacing Keith Moon.

I will never get why people who ostensibly like the show are so threatened by Tom not liking something they like.  Tom can't stand The Band, Tom Waits, Zappa or the Dead and I like a lot of all of those artists' music, and I even like a lot of Billy Joel while still recognizing that every criticism of him is 100% dead on and that he does, in fact, suck.

You can still like stuff if Tom don't, people!

I honestly don't really mind Billy Joel but his assessment of him as looking like "the guy who would tell you how much the damage to your car is going to cost" is classic.

Yeah, there was a weird smug / judge-y vibe through a lot of the calls.  It reached its peak when the guy declared that because of the story behind the Billy Joel freakout clip, it was something that shouldn't be joked about.  Loved that Tom ended that one by just saying "You scare me."
