Can't wait to listen.  Personal leaves, vacations - whatever Tom needs, I hope the Best Show sticks around for a long long time

pretty great show last night.  When he said Jerry Ferrara was calling, I (like most I imagine) thought it would be Jon for a second.  But it worked out really well.  Jerry seems to be 100% in on the joke.

I also got through for the first time last night. I was the Atlantic City guy.  I reviewed it via podcast this morning, and it definitely wasn't a great call, but it wasn't too bad considering how insanely nervous I was.  And I'm certainly proud that I got to hang up of my own volition.

edit: Actually, I don't even want to give that guy attention.

Also, Jerry was a great interview. Seems like a really cool guy.

Jerry Ferrara was a prince. Also, way more basketball talk, Tom getting fired up about the Knicks was amazing. The whole show was a big win with a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay bigger boat.

holy shit, I had to turn it off at work because i was laughing out loud at Tom talking about bad old comedy.  I always hated Charlie Callas...

its so weird, my two favorite podcasts, The Best Show and Harmontown both come out on wednesday and both episodes this week had bits about Charlie Callas.

Jerry and Tom seemed to have hit it off, it was like they were old friends. He was so down to earth that I even felt bad when he said he probably wouldn't get another part as big as Entourage.

I finished the episode today, and it had a perfect Bad Companying. Tom slowly leading him into it was masterful.

Callas was the sidekick on Jerry Lewis' short-lived talk show in the 80's. Even as a kid, I realized how bizarre it was. I'd give anything to find some clips of it. I've searched YouTube and other places for years, but haven't ever found anything.

The Wurster call was full of gold. So much quotable stuff. The Jerry Ferrara interview was also unexpectedly fantastic.

From where I'm standing the show's already firing on all cylinders. In context of everything detailed in "the blog post" it's a real testament to Tom's showmanship that he still manages to deliver at such a high level.

I knew the name "Charlie Callas" but was having trouble placing the face until I watched that 1978 performance someone linked earlier. In retrospect I think it was a blocked memory.

I definitely saw him on TV when I was a kid, and I remember being really unsettled by it. This guy was obviously a professional entertainer, and the audience was laughing, but I didn't find it funny at all... but instead of thinking, "well, that's just not for me" I thought he might have been evil- either people were so frightened of him they laughed to humor him, or he was compelling them to laugh through some kind of dark power.

Wow, I just realized that my childhood was terrifying.

anyone remember this? Charlie Callas as the Carpenter's sound engineer...and then he talks to alien John Davidson in a fake alien language.

Callas is mawkish and schmaltzy and just hard to watch.

Remember how Tom's (fictional) Daddy would only play the Karen Carpenter solo album? He felt like Richard held her back.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!
