I agree, the "Thank You" was such a great moment. The kind of moment that would only squeak through in years past, but had so much more weight in the light of all the rough stuff Tom and his family have been going through the past couple of months. I know Tom has lamented that he has no Best Show, but I hope there were a couple rays of healing in that muted mic, stifled chuckle exchange. I can't imagine there weren't. PBR was the perfect call. If that was the last episode, it would be a perfect Best Friends/Bookends type of serendipity. That was a shoot to end work.
As for all the terrible calls, I guess that what happens when carpetbaggers or new blood come in and think that the show is a platform for them. And for them to workshop their b.s or get a few calls before they shine. Its not a new thing among the FOT. You find the show, you want to participate regardless of what you have to offer is good or not. I've done it, and flamed out fantastically. To this day I hold myself partially responsible for the Autumn Hiatus in 2010. The only great call was FONPR, in a state of unhinged-ment that I've never heard from him before. If that call happened an hour later it would have been a classic. I think Tom was anticipating the Kristen Schaal call, coupled with Fredericks dealing in dark subjects.
The second best moment of the night was Tom expressing his desire/lament to voice a character on Bob's Burgers. I don't know if Tom really wants it anymore, but I hope it happens. Its such an oversight it makes me thing that its not happened because everyone involved thinks that Tom is too busy or doesn't really care.
Also Kristen Schaal said dildo, while checking herself on some F-bombs. That has to be a Best Show first.
Also Also, Tom making fun of Willamsburg rubes is one of my favorite things. What a F.W.D.
Sorry for the long post FOT. It just seems like a milestone in the history of the Best SHow. With the live shows and everything, its a very exciting time.
