If Obama doesn't win, I'm going to go be a dick at Martin's apartment.  He's got the skin for it.

No, seriously, if he doesn't win...(sigh).  Tomorrow: voting, then Heartless Bastards show, drinking, and watching the results with old friends, jumping from house to house.  im going to make it memorable the nite we write history.

i can't wait to hear what Tom has for opening tracks tomorrow nite.

Conservatives would have to summon Satan himself (not that they aren't trying) to give McCain even a CHANCE at winning this thing now, Bradley effect be damned.

You're such a Pollyanna, JSP.

The day after Bush secured it for the second time was the worst day in America I've lived through short of 9/11, bar none.

Yes, that was awful for me too. I will never forget it. I was living in San Francisco at the time, a true liberal "bubble". I saw a Democratic win as a sure thing. Would have bet everything I owned on it. Seriously. My wife and I went down to a tavern to watch the results come in because we didn't have a TV. The mood swing of the crowd from when we got there (around 6:00) to the time we left (midnight or so) was incredible - from ear splitting cheers at the beginning to crushed silence by the end.

From that I learned that there is truly no such thing as a "sure thing". However that does not diminish my optimism for an Obama landslide...

No matter the outcome, the right cannot possibly make me any more afraid than they have made me in the recent past. The day after Bush secured it for the second time was the worst day in America I've lived through short of 9/11, bar none.

So true.  In 2004, we watched the results come in at our friends' house. We put the kids to bed, drank, and watched the tube. The merriment slowly died down, and when the Ohio results came in, we all went to bed. I lay down between my son and daughter in the dark, looked at them sleeping, and I teared up.  What the fuck were we doing to their future?

We seriously did not hang out with those friends again for several months. Both families were so upset by the events of Nov. 4, 2004, that even thinking about the other family made us nauseous.  These are our best friends!  We are, of course, hanging out again. But out of superstition, we have no plans to hang out tomorrow night.

I just read that Obama's grandmother died today. I know everyone knew it was coming, but still so very sad.

The Republicans don't really seem to be trying.  They've all but abandoned McCain in the interest of trying to shore up a few congressional seats at this point, I think.

Yes, that's true. My hyperbole got the better of me. That and I just generally assume right wingers lick their wounds by using secret, dark, summoning magics.

I'm with you.  I've had to pinch myself several times in order to come to terms with the idea that they might actually be vulnerable.  I'm more accustomed to evil genius on their part than I am Democrat-worthy levels of incompetence.

Sad thing is, I never would have literally used the word "evil" in regards to the Republicans until Bush/Cheney.  And I was never formally registered as a Democrat until then either.

I'm really sad about Obama's grandma also. I suppose it just strikes me in the same place that I felt my own grandmothers' passing. They were both very important people in my life, but probably not nearly as influential as Barack's grandmother was to him. Yet in his case, it means that she could not be around to see her grandson elected president (if that happens), which would be such an important historical moment in our country. It just ain't fair.

I can only pray that my vote tips the scales in Obama's favor in New York.

Hey Forrest, there was a Marist College poll a week ago that showed Obama leading McCain in New York state by 65 to 29. So you have to go vote for Obama, and let's hope that 36 other people do the same.

Or are those numbers percentages? **rimshot**

that was a pretty bad day...

but it's nothing compared to the day i worked a 16 hours only to be carjacked/kidnapped by a huge drunk guy outside a liquer store not 10 minutes after leaving work who then forced me to drive him around LA while he did some drugs deals. every time we parked he took my keys so i coudln't escape. also he repeated tried to solicit oral sex from me, which i respectfully declined.

i eventually managed to ditch him at a cvs

What? Why the hell would you stay in the car if he was out of it? Did he also put a backwards B on your face because of your bumper stickers?
