I just saw a documentary last night about General Idea, a group of three conceptual artists who were based in Toronto (until they inevitably left for New York.) These guys produced tons of hilarious, influential and ultimately quite moving work in just about every medium you could think of.

Baby Makes 3, 1984

There's a bunch of info (including some video clips) about them here and the last surviving member has a website. (The other two both died of AIDS in 1994.)

One Year of AZT and One Day of AZT, 1991

It blew my mind to imagine these guys working in Toronto in the early '70s - at that point, it was an incredibly staid, uptight town. They pretty much invented the contemporary art scene in Canada!

The doc was called "General Idea: Art, AIDS and the Fin de Siecle", and it's well worth a look if you have a chance.

Louise Bourgeois, always and forever. She's 96 and still making art. And I don't think there's a single piece by Louise Bourgeois that hasn't stirred emotions in me or made me feel something. I love her.

Now, if I posted this exact same message word for word, people would be talking about how creepy I am, and how Emma must hide whenever I sign on.

I find the book Codex Seraphinianus very inspiring.  I'm not sure what exactly it's inspiring me to do.  Possibly make the bowl that chews food in real life.

Why would that be sad? Cool/interesting illustration can be inspiring, even if somebody slaps it on a tshirt.

Cool.  A while back I had the local library get it for me via inter-library loan, so I had a physical copy for a couple weeks.  I hated taking it back.
