Fav. Tom Quote

I think it'd be a good idea to have a central thread for this...recent, anyway, if it's been done before.

I can actually use some help with mine, as in the wording/origin. Something like...

"I'll hit you in the face with your baby. I'll take it from you, and hit you in the face with your own baby. That's called a twofer."

I love it, but I'm not sure I'm remembering it exactly right. Anyone else remember this, or have one of their own?

I thought this thread showed promise.

Although I too can find them pretty annoying sometimes, I never understood why Tom has it in for hippies until I gave the "most self-centered people in the world" critique some thought. After I read Slouching Toward Bethlehem, Joan Didion's thoughtful profile of the Haight-Ashbury Summer of Love, I could see what he meant. I still kinda think there are lots better social groups in the world to pick on.

I find myself chortling at "Respect must be paid to Ernie Anastos" whenever I tune into Channel 5 news, which is seldom. It just hit my funny bone, what can I say?

It's a punk thing.  Punk as rejection of hippy idealism and naïvety is sort of a core differentiating belief when you consider that the two subcultures essentially hold the same politics.
