Johnny Depp and Sean Penn? Is this really necessary?

On the other hand, I thought the Pink Panther remakes would be awful, and I turned out to be right.

What does "on the other hand" mean again?

Who is going to play Mort Sahl?

You know for the  rolled-up newspaper scene?

I don't understand how anyone could not be excited by Sean "Greatest Actor of His Generation" Penn playing Larry Fine.

I can't be excited, but I am stunned. NPR story I heard tonight expressed surprise at a Jim Carrey being attached to this project. I'm not. It's Sean Penn that surprised me, but maybe that's my mistake. Greatest actor of his generation? This oughta fix that.

Nothing against Spicoli (I even got a pair of checkered Vans recently), but the part belongs to Billy West.

edit:  And anyway, I don't want acting to distract Penn from his role as the greatest journalist of our time.

For the record, I never understood those lofty accolades Penn gets ("Casualties of War?  More like Casualties of Bore!" - Ed.).  His casting was just so hilarious to me it briefly delayed my realization that Jim Carrey as Curly will be the most unbearable ordeal ever.

Why can't they make the unnerving, Michael Haneke-like Three Stooges movie that exists in my head?   That would be much more fun.

Del Toro as Moe and Carrey as Curly are definitely the bad casting decisions. I'd keep Penn as Larry and bring in Mark Ruffalo as Moe and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Curly, though he'd make an equally fine Joe Besser.

The Stooges movie I've wanted to make would be set in World War II, where the US drafts the Stooges to sneak into Germany to take on the Nazis, using their natural talent for disguises, incredible pain tolerance levels and their capacity for ultraviolence. The plan would be for the Stooges assassinate Hitler and have Moe Howard secretly take his place so that he could end the war. It would play somewhere between Saving Private Ryan and Where Eagles Dare, but with way more scenes of Nazi soldiers getting beaten to death with wrenches and fatally poked in the eyes than either of those films.
This may be the year I will disappear.

How dare they sully the legacy of the Stooges? Is nothing sacred?!

So it'd be like the new Tarantino movie?
