If anyone wants to get into good shape, I recommend becoming a farmer and eating only vegetables, fruit, and meat you harvest for yourself.  Worked for me!

ive been wondering where youve been hiding.

After somewhat of a lazy summer, a friend of mine and I have begun training for a half marathon in Atl this fall. I am pretty excited and more than a little nervous, as I have never done any sort of race (that's a lie- Fun Run when I was 10!) - one of the main reasons for my case of nervousness is that the race is in November. This leaves us 12 weeks to train, and after studying a training guide I realized I am about 2 weeks from where I should be in my running. But I am excited about the challenge- and I am definitely looking forward to the benefits!

I wound up going to the gym pretty much every day this summer because I was taking time off from writing and there's fuck all else to do in Roanoke if you don't have a car (and even then it's questionable).  I'm back in Brooklyn and am going to join the gym at the nearby Pratt Institute and/or start using the Rutgers gym, but neither is available to me right now.  Doing a lot of situps, riding my bike when I can, and doing yoga weekly, also watching what I eat, but I probably won't get back to peak condition for a little while.  The fact that I recently discovered HeBrew Messiah Bold beer probably isn't helping.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I've been having some arm/shoulder pain that's made running difficult.

Huh - I pulled one of my hip flexor muscles while running last week and have been limping around ever since. I'm stretching it now to get back in harness but it's tough going b/c my entire body is sore from compensating for the pulled muscle.

There's good news and there's bad news. I visited my GP this morning, and I have lost 30 pounds since February (I thought I had lost 5 - 10.) The bad news is that my GP freaked out, and is concerned that there might be something wrong with me. I will keep you posted.

Have you been exercising?  If so, that's truly a horrible stance for your doctor to take. Keep us posted. Is your GP a big fat person? Maybe he's just jealous.

I've had a doctor be excessively concerned about my (reasonable) weight loss before, when it was fairly clearly just the result of having moved to college where I walked a lot more and probably ate somewhat less- reverse freshman 15! There obviously turned out to not be anything wrong- hopefully yours is a similar situation.

Yah, Dave -- I don't think that's an unreasonable amount if you've been working at it .... that's like 5 pounds a month.

Nah, I mischaracterized my GP if that's the message I sent; I LOVE her. I have been with her for nearly 20 years. She's mainly concerned about a couple of long-standing problems that, when they worsen, could manifest with massive fast weight loss. Let's believe we will be able to rule those out.

Well, it's "mild" fatty liver disease; a "mild infiltration of fat into the liver that hinders the liver's ability to do its job." My problem is probably reversible with some pretty serious weight loss; the up side is that one of my symptoms is limiting the body's ability to hang on to nutrients from the food I have been eating, so I have now lost 40 pounds. THIN-NAH!!!!!!!!!

And damnation, am I tired of apples, about the only thing left I can figure out I am allowed to eat.

Thanks for your well wishes; I seem to have gotten more than my quota of them lately.

way to go, dave..!...?  at any rate, good luck with a "recovery".

anyway, i had intentions of going to the gym friday nite (i had been that morning also), but forgot to pick up my gym bag when i decided against it.  on saturday morning, i woke up and went to the gym, hoping my bag would still be in the locker (which was locked).  unfortunately, they cut my lock and also locked my bag in the manager's office...who wasnt there.  he was supposed to be in today but i dont know when i'll be able to get my bag.

i havent worked out in three days and im paranoid that i'll lose momentum.  pretty frustrating stuff.
