Some really good actors have had small roles on the show (I'm thinking specifically of Lance Reddick, John Hawkes and Titus Welliver).

I also like the guy who plays Frank Lupitas.

As for other Deadwood actors, William Sanderson was hilarious in his lone appearance as Oldham.  He delivered one of my favorite lines:

"Maybe I should've used half a dropper ... Oops."

Paula Malcomson, too. She's introduced only to get shot in the gut.

edit: Forgot. Calamity Jane was Juliet's sister.

And Joanie Stubbs is Sawyer's baby mama.

Speaking of connecting people to other roles they've played, every time the guy playing Jacob shows up, I keep waiting (hoping?) for him to say "Your name's Lebowski, Lebowski."

Silas Adams was The Man in Black/Smoke Monster before he turned into Locke.

He was mentioned above (the actor's name is Titus Welliver).
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Last night's episode was very informative.  When I draw up my will, I will be sure to put it in an envelope and then write LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT on said envelope with a black Sharpie.

I'm taking classes on how to be better organized, and they actually tell you to do this.  True story.

I loved how Jack's mom said "It's like finding a needle in a damned haystack." And the will was right there on the shelf.  She was clearly too busy drinking to look before Jack arrived.

I haven't seen a lot of acting that i'd call atrocious on that show. Most of the moments where I begin to think that the acting is really bad, I can just as easily decide that it's because of the lines they're speaking and blame it on the script. This is really evident in a lot of the "oh hell no!" type moments when people are sad, and the over the top pretty string type sounds start playing and all that stuff, combined with the crying they have to do. Crying is always weird to watch actors do.

It's not really an "acting" show, is it?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

True, it's more plot driven than performance driven. At times I think the writing needs it to be over dramatic but with that said did I mention that I think Matthew Fox is horrible?

It takes a lot of skill to pretend laugh and shake your head and appear angry all at the same time though!

It depends who you ask. According to the show-runners, the show is all about the characters, whereas I could honestly give a fuck about the people on the show.

Even so, I'd still shade the meaning between "character" and "acting."  TV is littered with great characters played by so-so actors, right?

I don't get what that criticism is
the actors are hitting the notes, they are conveying the emotion....to me bad acting is (just because I just watched the rifftrax it's fresh in my mind) Common in that new Terminator movie.

I don't remember seeing that in any of his flashbacks.

Wasn't he also Brad Pitt's brother in Legends of the Fall or A River Runs Through It (I always get those two confused for some reason).
