much more people are watching than did The Sopranos

Actually, not really.  This current season is averaging around 9 million viewers, and last season around 11 million.  Those are roughly the same numbers "The Sopranos" had when it was on.  Lost peaked way higher (23.4 million vs 13.4 for "The Sopranos"), but it seems like a pretty big portion of the "Lost" audience has bailed since those early years (or is possibly just waiting for DVD).

i suppose watching Oz was worth it, but it was the least pleasant TV show I've ever watched, and sometimes it was more like a Harmony Korine movie than "gritty realism."

I still hear the between scenes percussion in my head about 15 times a day.  Please help me.

My wife and I watched Oz, but agreed the whole point of the show seemed to be to snuff out any trace or spark of hope you might have for those characters. Everybody ended up either dead or on death row eventually.

This week we will get the scoop on that mysterious Dick Alpert!  He's been on that island for like a million years!  He came over on the Santa Maria with Chris Columbus, the director of Adventures in Babysitting.  Beth Shue is locked in that room on Widmore's submarine.

You talking about Chuck Widmore?

Indeed.  He's a wealthy industrialist!

Is he friends with Charles Whitmore?

I hope they give us some background on Alpert's friendship with Timothy Leary.  And that the Grateful Dead pop up on the island!
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I'd love seeing a frizzy-haired, dirt-caked Claire twirl around to the strains of "Box of Rain" while clutching that makeshift Alf-thing she had in the crib.

Is Jin ending up in that meat locker a reference to the classic installment of The Brady Bunch?  I hope he gets a chance to punch meat and then go bowling with Alice and Samuel.

Ideally, this storyline would end with Claire ingesting too much of a particularly potent batch of LSD that renders her unable to speak. A nice callback would be to have this scene followed by William Sanderson saying, "You should've only taken one drop."
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I'm pretty sure Hurley tried to sell me high-powered blotter acid in the Red Rocks parking lot back in '77.  He was in a blue VW van. But someone that only he could see told him not to, so he said "Never mind, dude."
