I have several books that I got partway through, loaned out and am very happy they were never returned.  Keep em, suckas!

I watched it after seeing and enjoying Master and Commander.  I mean, say what you will, that was a fun adventure movie. 

I was jaded, having read all of O'Brian's books before seeing the film.  To do the books justice would require a mini series on a par with the Horatio Hornblower flicks.  You can't really cram into one film 20 odd books worth of naval adventuring and still have time to develop the characters and a lot of the non-action intrigue that makes the books so enjoyable.

Seconded. Isn't that one of the things we all find so compelling about Tom?...that he owns his opinions so completely. I say seek solace in your Steely Dan, your Bruce Campbell, your ABBA, and be proud!

I agree. I'm not changing my mind just because Tom doesn't like it, but I'm still a little ashamed of myself. It is Steely Dan, after all.
