I just saw Etienne! before it expired, and thought it was quite good for a low budget indie. I was a bit apprehensive at first when everyone looked like miscreant hipsters, but it had real charm and heart - something missing in so many movies these days. I can't believe it has only two reviews in IMDB; one rave and one decidedly thumbs down.

Really worth a watch if it comes back into circulation.

Anyone else seen it?

Early low-key Demme.

Citizen's Band

1977 PG 95 minutes

Director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) weaves the disarmingly quirky tales of Chrome Angel (Charles Napier), Spider (Paul Le Mat) and Blood (Bruce McGill), among other characters, who all gab on a CB (Citizens' Band) radio in a rural Nebraska town. Spider has it out for a priest (Ed Begley Jr.) while big-hearted Chrome Angel has to contend with two wives (Ann Wedgeworth and Marcia Rodd) and McGill has caught Spider's girl's eye.

Cast:   Paul Le Mat, Candy Clark, Bruce McGill, Roberts Blossom, Charles Napier, Ann Wedgeworth, Marcia Rodd, Ed Begley Jr., Harry Northup

Netflix just added a bunch of the Classic Albums docs to their instant service. I'm a sucker for these things.

Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Behind_the_Mask_The_Rise_of_Leslie_Vernon/70061490?trkid=2361637

With "Cabin in the Woods" grabbing people's interest in meta-horror/comedy it reminded me of this no-budget mockumentary of an up-and-coming supernatural serial-killer that takes place in a world where Jason, Freddy, and Michael Myers actually exist.  Come to think of it, this recommendation might only apply to Spike  :P

Anyway the actor who plays Leslie is compelling to watch

I thought that was a fun movie and then the third act shift really ruined it.

I LOVED World's Greatest Dad. What a pleasant surprise.

Agreed! I watched it, and then brought my friends around to watch it again.

I believe that "The Long Goodbye" was recently added. Excellent Robert Altman low-key noir flick starring Elliott Gould, based on a Raymond Chandler novel. Awesome.

If you enjoy "so bad it's good", Birdemic: Shock & Terror is on streaming.  Not your typical S.B.I.G. movie.  It is the most inept film ever.  It makes Manoe: Hands of Fate and Troll 2 look like Ridley Scott epic.  Everything from the audio to the editing to the acting to th dialogue is just insane.  Watch it with friends and many laughs and "What the fu*ks" will be exchanged.
It's about the power of love and the importance of caring for the environment.  And incredibly fake-looking killer eagles.

Following Sean was pretty great. The last scene and the song that followed it made me tear up a little bit.

Sounds like it would pair well with Thankskilling [quite possibly the only killer talking turkey movie in existence]. I live tweeted my viewing of it a couple of years ago. It has to be seen to be believed. Yes, it's streaming.

Two Australian movies that share a similar theme (both are about women looking for suitable men)-

  • Muriel's Wedding - probably well known, but just throwing it out there for any FOTs who haven't seen it yet. And I love the ABBA soundtrack.
  • Love Serenade - only 4 characters, all of them really odd. Super deadpan humor, cheesy Barry White soundtrack. Lots of quotable lines. Just a really funny and memorable movie.

Rotten Tomatoes not necessarily the best guide, but this seems worth checking out:

I saw that one.  Because Omar said to.  It was good.
