I really liked Black Power Mixtape myself. It was interesting to see all that footage and it told the story well.

Watched Bernie this weekend and thought it was fantastic. Looked up the trailer on youtube, and it is a textbook example of how to completely misrepresent the tone of a movie:

I enjoyed the former. Never done the latter.  The movie kinda steers you clear of the dining experience.

Yeah. Lifting the veil on the kitchen probably doesn't get mouths watering.

'Best Worst Movie' is on Netflix Instant? I'm not seeing it, if that's the case. Bah!

Anyone watched 'I Like Killing Flies'? One better: anyone ever eaten at Shopsin's?

I've seen I Like Killing Flies and I ate at Shopsin's once. Both were OK.

Mike, do you happen to remember what you ordered at Shopsins? Also, which location? (I live in Fargo and have been obsessed w/ that place since that first NewYorker article several years ago).

I had breakfast at Shopsin's (original location) a couple times.  I saw the late great Chris Whitley there one time. He seemed like a regular.

I watched a Paul Rudd movie--Diggers--this weekend on the netflix.  Quiet, underrated movie.

"The Story of Film: An Odyssey"

http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/The_Story_of_Film_An_Odyssey/70261400?trkid=2361637

From description: "Guided by film historian Mark Cousins, this bold 15-part love letter to the movies begins with the invention of motion pictures at the end of the 19th century and concludes with the multi-billion dollar globalized digital industry of the 21st."

Very comprehensive series that focuses on cinema innovation- here and around the world.  I dig Mark Cousins' Northern Irish accent though it may take getting used to for some.  Learned a lot about Indian films from this show.

I found out that the "Primer" is on Instant, which is a good watch if you like low-key sci-fi. And it looks amazing to have been made for $7,000.

A second "The Story of Film." I feel like it's helping fill in a few of the gaps for me with important early & foreign cinema.

Off-topic, but Shane Carruth, the director of Primer, is making a new movie called Upstream Color: http://shanecarruth.com/film/upstreamcolor. The trailer is pretty cool, if somewhat incomprehensible.

Ever do nothing and gain nothing from it?
Ever feel stupid and then know that you really are?
Ever think you're smart and then find out you aren't?
Ever play the fool and then find out that you're worse?

I am only halfway through this, but so far so good http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/70189291?strkid=2061905491_0_0&trkid=222336&movieid=70189291

We Have a Pope
(Habemus Papam)

The pope has died, and the congress of cardinals has chosen his successor. But what happens if the newly elected pontiff doesn't want the job? This comedy follows the Vatican's travails as it strives to make one cardinal accept his destiny.

I was watching 'Peep Show' and was in the middle of the last season when Netflix pulled it. Honestly it felt like the show ratcheted up the cringe factor as it progressed to the point where I was slowing down in watching it, but now I'm annoyed I didn't complete it.
