Ok so when I was about 19 I was at Grimey's in Nashville and  I picked up what I thought was John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band but it was Yoko's album of screeches and yelps. I remember the guy behind the counter asking me if I had heard it and I said yeah thinking he was talking about John's album, and he said "Isn't it brilliant!?" And I remember thinking, "Geez cool out, everyone likes this." But now I think how much that guy deserved and "Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww boy, you like THAT?"

After years of being perplexed by this band, I've recently turned the corner. Still haven't heard everything yet, but I'm making my way through the catalog.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I think I like the Yoko POB LP better than the John one (which I really love). I've heard other Yoko LPs (Fly and Approximately Infinite Universe) and not really liked them and I never cared for her tracks (or John's) on Double Fantasy, but that first LP is really something else. It features some of Ringo's best drumming IMO.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

London Calling is a good, but overrated album. Not their best work, IMO.

I don't think they ever topped their debut album, personally.

I have now completely lost the thread of this conversation under the smothering layers of irony, or whatever it is that everyone calls irony.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I really like Yoko's POB album and Fly. No irony!

I guess I could do without the track that's the sound of a toilet flushing, but it's only 30 seconds long.

Plus, I agree with Fredericks about the Clash. I love London Calling but nothing beats the debut plus their first few singles.

I also really like Ono. And I think The Clash's best record is Give 'Em Enough Rope.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I second your opinion about Give 'Em Enough Rope.

Sandinista would probably be higher in my estimation if it was cut down to a single album.

Listening to The Stranglers' No More Heroes.  I'm a fairly recent convert to these guys' records.  For too long, I wrote them off as misogynist bar-band dudes cashing in on England's late-'70s punk momentum, but I'm fixating on a few of their records lately.  They're great!  I was wrong about them!

Yes.  This album is so great.  The version I have has Live Sparks appended to it, and it's awesome.  They do a great cover of "I Want You Back" and a vicious version of "Mercury Poisoning."

If I can ever get up the nerve to play a solo show, I'll probably do "Local Girls."

I only know The Stranglers from Butt-head's take on the "Skin Deep" video.

I haven't thought about this one in a long time but I loooved it back in the day. It got a lot of radio play. Parker had sort of a snotty, angry, bitter quality that I related to. (I wonder why?) I might have like Joe Jackson's early stuff  for the same reason.
