Speaking of Effed Up (as someone was in this thread back in June), I just saw them on the Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations Christmas Special.  They played Jingle Bells.

I recognized the lead singer right away.  I was pretty amazed by how "guy on the street" the rest of the band looked.  They did a good job!
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Bourdain tweeted about Effed Up being in Spin not long ago.

Speaking of which there seems to be some sort of Eff Tupp (Dave From Knoxville spelling) Blockade in my town. I don't see them in record stores, and not long ago I asked one to order the latest for me and never heard back (they've never done that too me before). Sure, I could get it off iTunes or order it myself, but it goes against my religious beliefs regarding local record stores.

iamaphoney - Ask The Law (unmastered)

Oh, I've been waiting for this since I was a kid! There's this weird, anonymous guy named "iamaphoney" who's sorta famous because of his series of "Rotten Apple" videos - surreal, disturbing videos that cryptically, elliptically purport that not only did Paul McCartney die in 1966, but his replacement was the reincarnated spirit of Alesteir Crowley. It's hard to tell if he really believe in it, but he puts a lot of work into his videos (they look and sound very professional, and there's even been speculation that iamaphoney actually IS Sir Paul).

Anyway, recently, iamaphoney has branched out into creating "original" music that proceeds from the same weird conspiritorial bent. He's been putting out album's worth of "songs" that are essentially Beatles songs LEARNED backward (i.e. chord progressions and melodies go the other direction) but played forward - with new arrangements, and lyrics meant to sort of replicate how the songs sound backward. The cool thing is - these songs are great! They could pass for Jellyfish or Cardinal or one of the more professional examples of ork-pop. I particularly like this one - it's "Getting Better" reversed and turned into a power-pop masterpiece worthy of Nada Surf.

I love Bert Jansch and think that maybe I am ready for Pentangle.

At a record store I called him "Jansch" and was corrected by an asshole, lonely middle age record collector type who mutter "It's "YAUNSCH" under his breath. I then proceded to pronounce it "Jansch" two more times in the conversation.

The asshole was wrong.  Like a lot of children of immigrants, Tshantsch anglicized the pronunciation of his name.  I reversed the anglicized pronunciation of my German last name when I moved to Yurp, thus alienating my entire family -- but the American pronunciation of my last name means a specific type of ladies undergarment in German, so I made the choice I feel I had to.

Yes, this band is named Diarrhea Planet. Yes, the best song on the 7" is called "Ghost with a Boner".

Man, early Aerosmith was great.

We Take Care Of Our Own (With Lyrics) - Bruce Springsteen

What are the thoughts on the new Bruce single?

I LOVE IT! You all know a lot more about music production and arrangement than me but this has so many things to it that I'm picking up.

1) The first few seconds or so has a guitar that subtle sounds like an alarm. It kind of reminds me of London Calling a bit -- it has big marching drums and a guitar that sounds like an alarm sound, but then the melody comes in and overtakes it.

2) I love Bruce's pitch, especially when he references the Superdome/Katrina. it's down a notch (I think) from where it was a bit earlier in the song.

3) AWESOME HAND CLAPS! Such an awesome touch for a song about community togetherness. This could also show up again at the end when backup voices join in.

4) I love the repetition of the "Where's the promise from sea to shining sea" line -- it really tells you what the song is about. Times get tough for us Americans, but we take care of each other and can get past awful times.

5) I'm really looking forward for this song to be used as political propoganda throughout November!
