Defiance, Ohio "Midwestern Minutes"

They're kind of a sloppy folk punk outfit on No Idea Records.

Listening to new Springsteen, which I like very much, though it's been a looooonnng time since he made an album where every track's a keeper. The best of this cuts deep and is very rousing.  Always up-to-the-minute, he's been listening to the Pogues, apparently.

As a rule, angry Bruce is good Bruce, I think.  Takes a little piss 'n' vinegar to keep his earnestness from tipping over into the murk.

Lee Ranaldo & Band on Brian Turner's show.  Kinda rocking me.  I've found Sonic Youth mostly a bore for thirty years now but this is surprisingly scratchy to my Neil & Crazy Horse/Husker Du itch.

I saw the Lee Ranaldo CD at the record store the other day. I was curious but hadn't heard anything from it so I didn't pick it up (it also wasn't in the listening station).

I'm in the same boat as you vis a vis Sonic Youth. However, I must admit that a NY&CH/Husker Du hybrid sound has me intrigued. I'll have to check this one out.

I find it weirdly sad and nostalgic.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Put on my AOD shirt this morning, and started playing them on the ol' iTunes...a favorite in High School.  I always laugh when Wurster brings AOD into the Newbridge universe too.

Wrecking Ball is great and I completely agree with The Pogues influence. Death To My Hometown sounds like something the local band at the Irish bar in North Jersey I spent a large amount of my childhood at would play. (My aunt ran the kitchen and my mom helped her out.)

I'm seeing Bruce next Wednesday. It's my wife's birthday. I've never seen him and she only saw him do five songs at some Obama thing in Philly. We could not be more excited! We're hoping he plucks my wife on the stage Dancin' In The Dark style.

On a note of interest: We (especially me) have decided to become vinyl geeks again. We literally just set up the stereo long buried in the basement. Wrecking Ball was the first listen. I'm going to push for London Calling next, which I've never heard on vinyl. My wife might put up a stink and want Neutral Milk Hotel. But Superchunk's Foolish is also waiting in the wings.

Also: my friend just got the new Menzingers album. Pop-punk from Philly via Scranton. They are SO good.
