I think Steely Dan are hilarious. Even the horn arrangement of "My Old School" is funny. Greil Marcus (I know, another fun guy) described them as making "deeply controlled hits about people for whom control is just a memory," and that's the best description of their MO I can think of. Also, their humor isn't middle-aged, it's collegiate.

Maybe professor collegiate.  Not student collegiate.  I don't think there are many belly laughs coming from college kids listening to Steely Dan.

This post reminds me of this guy who used to post over on Kevin Smith's board.  I wonder what happened to him.

He was in a movie (or two)!

I wondered what wag would try this on for fun.  I needn't have.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

You guys all know what "fun" and "funny" mean, right? Because I'm pretty sure I've seen zero examples of it so far.

SPIN magazine had an issue in the late 80s/early 90s that chronicled the history of rock. There was an entry about Naked Lunch that read something like "1959: William Burroughs' Naked Lunch is published in Paris. The book features a dildo named Steely Dan. Thirteen years later two dildos from New York named their band after it."

Tom really brought it with the last show. Gary's song was amazing! I keep singing, "You're as dumb as a bunch of rocks!" over and over in my head. Can't wait for "Beach Weirdo" and the 500th episode.

I think Steely Dan is the quintessential humorless band.

No, I think that honor belongs to King Crimson. I defy anyone to find a Crimson song that could be construed as "fun" or "humorous."

Steely Dan has some songs that make me laugh. It may not be the healthy laughter of a man enjoying wholesome humor, but I laugh.

The top of the show was fantastic. Everything before the first call had me cracking up.

I'm almost positive that the moron with the fake Southern accent who made fun of and threatened Tom and talked briefly about basketball was Zach from Richmond.
