Amazing and emotional opening hour - complete with making Fly Like an Eagle feel genuinely poignant.

I also think that the Mark 'The Arm' call is an instant classic. Hoping Grandpa Gus calls in next week to clear things up.

Best: "Oh, that band from New Orleans?"
Worst: first call about 'consciousness'

Peace be with you Tom and family

Worst: first call about 'consciousness'

Who does he think Tom is? This isn't Coast to Coast. He isn't sitting in a desert double wide. IT'S THE BEST SHOW.

Most of the callers on these first couple of shows have been a mess.

"Ah, you got me Pizza Man. You got me."

Listened to this episode twice already, made me call my pops. The amount of great lines and quality laughs is only the cherry on this one.

edit: "a relish smeared issue of 'Smoky White Hot Juicy Melons' or The Wedding Night Area Gazette.. hellooo?"

I lost my dad in 2014, so I appreciated Tom's opening monologue.

That intro made me stop the show and call me dad.  :-[

Precisely. I sent my dad a txt first thing the following morning. He and I are planning on seeing Inherent Vice together.

God bless you, Tom! Long live The Best Show...

I laughed out loud when Tom asked the British FOT newcomer to L.A. whether he was going to come here and fight guys like in "The Limey," one of my favorites.  I love The Best Show's emphasis on getting into fights and knocking people's blocks off.

Tom's harangue of Billy Crystal was just perfection. I hadn't heard it before, nor the call from Sully, so much of last nights "best of" show felt pretty new to me and it was so great. Also hearing the baseball call from the first week of the new run gave me quite a few laughs even hearing it again.

The worst moment...yeah.

"boids"... I was waiting for Tom to say "Accent... you're losing the accent"... then again Billy Crystal is certainly no Z-Man

Here is the actual video of Crystal's act put in with Tom talking about it, if you can manage to get through seeing Crystal doing it, it's really tough:

ugh...the look on his face is terrible. i wanna slap him.

Tom's story about the Bayonne movie seller featured a version of my all-time favorite Tom-voice, last seen in his impersonation of Hervé Villechaize, as a violent thug, which is in my top 5 Best Show funniest moments.

"Hey. Get in the car."

Followup: Does anyone remember what episode that was, the one with Tom's Hervé Villechaize impression? I don't think it was on the Superego podcast that comes up when you search for Tom Scharpling Hervé Villechaize.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Jason was a waste of space as always,if i could somehow make it impossible for that guy to get phone access when the show is airing  it would improve my life a lot.

I thought the woman that sings was Julie Klausner putting on a fake voice.

I thought the woman that sings was Julie Klausner putting on a fake voice.

I thought she was just a random weirdo who would call in to any show that would let her sing on the air, but apparently she at least listens to the show which I think is more than we can say for Spike.

And I was convinced that Billy Joel headlining Bonnaroo was just the caller pulling Tom's leg until i actually looked it up. #billyjoelsucks
