I'd like to write in Anton Newcombe if I could. Anytime you go to a BJM concert, you risk getting kicked in the face. What's more jerky than that? And that scene in Dig! where everyone's dicking around on sitars - skin-crawling.

Not to mention his music's terrible.

He's written some really good songs.  "When Jokers Attack," "Who?", etc.  I don't get the hatred of his music.  It can't be the hatred of pastiche or unoriginality what with the crop of bands people do like.  It's uneven, but that's true of everyone.  I just listen to the good songs.

Also, I saw them live and they were really good.

The new album totally stinks.

I agree. I also feel like they've had some pretty dumb arguments. They didn't believe second hand smoke was harmful. I believe they were global warming skeptics too.

I haven't seen their global warming show, but they admitted they were wrong about secondhand smoke.

I just have to repeat.  It takes a lot of jerkiness to balance out their bottled water episode.  They got people to think that different bottles full of the same hose water all had different tastes.  They showed that most bottled water has more impurities than most muni water.  Etc.  I fucking loved that show.  Bottled water is my enemy.

They turned for the worse I guess when instead of taking on bigfoot and homeopathic medicine, they went after actual science that they politically disagree with.  Oh well.  The dumb stuff is only a fraction of the show.

I think Taibbi is OK, but he seems to be recycling his schtick lately.  His dad was an oldskool journalist from back when it was a hardhat profession, so it s not a total pose.  And are you guys talking about Jonathan Ames?  And what is BJM?

No Jared Leto?   I registered for this forum just to vote for that guy but he wasn't on the list.

Man. So obvious I totally forgot about him.

mokin suggested that i call in with him, but i'm the one who called in with him for the "best to worst" list, and i don't want to be the person who suggests jared leto every time, even though his jerkiness is legendary.

i tried to find the 30 seconds to mars interview on youtube where he showcases what a huge asshat he is, with no self-awareness whatsoever, but some 30 seconds to mars fan has put at least 70 interviews with them on youtube. i'm not digging through that mess! just picture jared leto with lots of eyeliner and his hair plastered to his face with styling goop and sweat, talking about how they're one of the most important bands to date.

That new Brian Jonestown album is very very terrible, but I don't believe it quite qualifies Anton for the Fab Five of Jerks just yet.

Matt Taibbi, on the other hand - talk about a grade A douche... That guy made a whole lot of enemies in Buffalo before he left, and not the kind you get from "speaking truth to power" or whatever it is he thought he was doing here. Not a nice guy at all.

I am seriously mystefied about the number of votes Penn Jillette is getting. Everybody who voted for him needs to go and listen to Charmed Life again.

I like Bruce Campbell.  I don't wanna deify the guy, but do we have evidence he's a jerk?

I have to agree, buffcoat.  I'm not a HUGE Campbell fan, but he's always just seemed like a guy having a good time making goofy movies.  A friend of mine met him at Comic Con a few years ago and got him to sign a copy of his book.  Campbell asked where he was from, he answered "Pennsylvania," and they wound up having a lengthy conversation about Gettysburg and other historic Civil War sites.

I know this won't make a difference but I'm posting in defense of my pal Adam who called in offering Dave Foley as a jerk and got the "Heave-Ho". His story about Foley being a dick at a local bar is true. I was there. A good friend of mine was bartending and she ended up having to physically push him out of the bar. He threw a stool over the bar and kept grabbing the soda gun and spraying her with Sierra Mist and stuff. (Also, about a week later at a Built To Spill concert I witnessed some more, um, sub-par behavior by him. I won't go into details but I was a tad mortified cuz he's always been my fave Kid.)

BUT BUT BUT I wouldn't offer him up as a total jerk for the list. I'd offer him up as just a "REALLY terrible drunk".
