In a moment of insanity or inspiration I quit drinking (for the moment) and signed up for a 1/2 marathon that is 2 months away.

Well, it's "mild" fatty liver disease; a "mild infiltration of fat into the liver that hinders the liver's ability to do its job." My problem is probably reversible with some pretty serious weight loss; the up side is that one of my symptoms is limiting the body's ability to hang on to nutrients from the food I have been eating, so I have now lost 40 pounds. THIN-NAH!!!!!!!!!

You lucky bastard.  I wish I had a mild ailment that would make me lose weight without any effort on my part.

The fact that I recently discovered HeBrew Messiah Bold beer probably isn't helping.

Pretty much all the beers they make are way too good - any beer that rich you just know has as many calories as a meal. I ain't drinking much these days because I'm trying to man up to run a race before it gets too cold. I don't know if I"m going to be able to, because it turns out I have tendinitis in one of my right hip flexor muscles. So I have to go to a PT for a few weeks, and I'm not allowed to run till I get the all clear. we'll see.

Sometimes, inflammation from a fatty liver is linked to alcohol abuse; this is known as alcoholic steatohepatitis. Otherwise the condition is called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH.

An inflamed liver may become scarred and hardened over time. This condition, called cirrhosis, is serious and often leads to liver failure.

NASH is one of the top three leading causes of cirrhosis.
What are the symptoms of fatty liver?

A fatty liver produces no symptoms on its own, so people often learn about their fatty liver when they have medical tests for other reasons. NASH can damage your liver for years or even decades without causing any symptoms. If the disease gets worse, you may experience fatigue, weight loss, abdominal discomfort, weakness and confusion.

Be sure to drink some beer after the event, it helps w/ recovery.

haven't had an adult beverage in four days.  also haven't had an allergy attack (usually a daily occurance) in four days.  I don't like the thought of quitting alcohol, but i might have to give it a shot. might I actually lose weight on my impending vacation???

Good for you!! That's like 13 miles right? How many miles can you do as of now?

(Sorry I didn't see this earlier kittykittymeowmixhead).

I can do 5 miles with relative ease now. But when I started last month I would really struggle to get three. My longest run has been 8 miles and that went just OK.

I'm learning that if I don't have a goal in place (like a 1/2 marathon), I won't exercise. So I'm going to sign up for another one in May as soon as the registration opens.

After that you should go for a marathon.

1/2 to full is an easier step than 0 to 1/2.

I'm the same way! After going back and forth on running, I finally signed up for a half-marathon in December. A friend and I have begun running together - it's a lot easier to keep going when you are running with someone else. I am really looking forward to it.
Oh, and any Memphis-area FOT should run the 1/2 marathon...that's where it's being held. (iAmBaronVonTito!)

I took a yoga class for the first time ever yesterday and I am IN PAIN. People who say yoga is boring are clearly not doing it right.

Also I refuse to be one of those people who chants "OMMMMMMMM" at the end of the thing. For some reason that gives me the same irritated feeling as people who applaud at the end of an airplane ride.

No way. I took a Hindu Philosophy class and OM is definitely one of the coolest syllables out there.

Om includes all the sounds humans vocalize from the beginning: open back of the throat to the closed lipped humming that finishes the syllable.

Sounding ridiculous.
I'm on board with the concept of the thing, but it just feels a little silly in a room full of whitebread hipstery types.
