I've been wondering about that leap. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

After that you should go for a marathon.

1/2 to full is an easier step than 0 to 1/2.

Good for you!! That's like 13 miles right? How many miles can you do as of now?

(Sorry I didn't see this earlier kittykittymeowmixhead).

I can do 5 miles with relative ease now. But when I started last month I would really struggle to get three. My longest run has been 8 miles and that went just OK.

I'm learning that if I don't have a goal in place (like a 1/2 marathon), I won't exercise. So I'm going to sign up for another one in May as soon as the registration opens.

Sounding ridiculous.
I'm on board with the concept of the thing, but it just feels a little silly in a room full of whitebread hipstery types.

Well, for me, it's not really what I'm there for. I do yoga at home now because I'm not really down with the yoga community at large.

so this nice woman brought donuts in to the office today from this great little local shop.

i kindly dropped by her office and said "thank you". but i wanted to say the other thing that ends with "you" because i have no self control around office donuts. maybe i'll look myself in the mirror and tell myself off.

The leap is mostly psychological.

The most difficult thing about it is all the time you have to put into training. 20 mile runs can really eat up a lot of the day (fortunately you only need to do one of these the first time out).

I've been wondering about that leap. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I just got to 3 miles and hurt myself, pulled a weird muscle near my hip :(  I could never run a marathon or half marathon. But I'd like to try a 5k, and 10k some day.

Oh, man, my sympathies ... I'm recovering from pulling a hip flexor muscle - I did it in August.

True. It is simply weakness leaving the body. Henry Rollins told me that.

Signing up and running a 5k seems like a really big deal the first time out because it is.

I'm no runner, but since running that first 5k I've run a few more, one 1/2 marathon, a couple of marathon relays and it's made me relatively healthy in comparison to my pre-5k me.

I say do it. It's pretty exciting on race day, too.

Race days are cool. I feel like throwing up before from nerves, and after for physiological reasons. Still, there are few things so exhilirating. I've only actually thrown up once. That was the second time I ran the marathon, and I gave the peace sign to onlookers and carried on.

I'm old-fashioned, I guess:  to me, an activity so grueling that it causes one to vomit is not healthy.

Does this include drinking?

I remember a morning after a night of wine where I vomited in the commode and then cried out in anguish because of the resulting wine headache that the physicality of puking brought on.

I've often considered that my lowest moment; laying there on the bathroom floor crying out in pain to no one.

I thought that was just real life.

Not meaning to brag, but in my attempt to coax my liver out of it's near-catatonic state, I have, as of today, officially lost 50 pounds. At this rate, I will have to find a better scapegoat for my low self esteem than "really really fat'.

Also, my two-week running blood sugar average has dropped from 299 on September 1st to 183 today (it MUST get under 150; I would be pleased as punch with myself if it gets below 120; my doctor would like to see me break into double digits.)

Apples! They're magic!

Congrats, Dave!

I have lost 3 lbs since the beginning of the year. Not to blow my own horn or anything.
