I bet he would have been pretty excited if they'd been real, too.

Your male, single, 39-year old friend just got zung, son.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I am reading the Virgin Encyclopedia of 70's Music (and 7 other volumes to follow that one) and I just happened upon a piece of Steely Dan trivia that I had never heard. It's under the entry for Rick Derringer.

"After several albums under the band name Derringer, Rick reverted to solo billing and appeared as guest guitarist on albums by Steely Dan (he was the subject of Rikki Don't Lose That Number), Bette Midler, Todd Rundgren, Donald Fagen, Kiss, Cyndi Lauper, Meat Loaf, Barbra Striesand, and Weird Al Yankovic."

Rick Derringer? Really? Who is Aja about, George Takei?

If we're being honest, my favorite Steely Dan song is Baker Street.

Yeah, my favorite Steely Dan song is definitely "Sweet Child O' Mine."  Followed closely by "Anarchy in the UK."

But in all seriousness, the only Steely Dan song I can leave on when I hear it on the radio is "Ricky, Don't Lose That Number," and that's mostly because of it's use in Say Anything.

It's Rikki, you Danadummy.

Steely Dan is named after a sex toy in a Wm. S. Burroughs novel.  I think it would be cooler if they were named after a sex toy in an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel.

That is all.

You're right, buffcoat ... I am a Danadummy ... Or a Steelydummy.  Wait, that doesn't work.  That sounds kind of dangerous, and therefore somewhat cool. Danadummy it is.

What about just a Rikki, don't lose that Numbadummy?

Also, I'd like to officially wish this thread a hearty Happy Birthday.  Only seventeen more years and we can start making "Hey 19" jokes ...

shoot me.

It is one of the greatest drunk Karaoke songs. And if you go up and try to do it all lounge-singer style, a la Will Farrell as Robert Goulet, it truly gives all of the regular karaoke freaks the gas face.

Or Lou Rawls "You'll Never Find".

Since "Dirty Work" is the only Steely Dan song that I like, it wasn't sung by Fagan, and was featured in the Sopranos does that make it okay?

Turner or Eisenhower?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Turner.  My actual, given name is Isaac Turner.  Ike is short for Isaac, and whammo!  A lifelong joke about spousal abuse and cocaine.

Again, the fine Columbian...
