I know it's from one of the Zachary Brimstead calls, but I'm not sure which one. Let me check and see if I can find it.

Edit: It's the Zachary Brimstead call (track 3) from The Best You Can Do Is Be Worse Than the Best Show, the CD you got as part of Tom's premium during pledge week. I don't know if the call ever aired. Anyway, the line is about 11:30 into the call.

I like Tom Waits, but I think his fans are a bit out of control...

I like Steely Dan and I've publicly stated so.

Steak, Jazz, etc. yeah...I dig that stuff too.

Like 'em or not, Steely Dan aren't even the worst jazz-based rock group of the 1970s, thanks to Chicago. And at least they've been sampled in some great rap songs (De La Soul's "Eye Know"; MF DOOM's "Gas Drawlz"; Organized Konfusion's "Walk Into the Sun"; Kanye's "Champion").

I will admit to loving the music of Al Green and liking the Band well enough, plus I own every movie Tarantino's put out on DVD. I also think ABBA's great, Zappa is terrible and Kevin Smith should be put on the Hate Shuttle, so hopefully that puts me back at square one.

I will also own my Steely Dan fandom.

And as someone who appreciates both bands, I believe that, if it came down to it, Becker & Fagen could take Benny and Bjorn in a street fight. Agnetha and Frida would probably walk out on top if they took on the winners, though.
