I got excited at the Warren Ellis mention but two seconds later when I realized it was the fake Warren Ellis the caller was referring to.

I do that on a weekly basis. Its hilarious that every once and awhile on Twitter he has to say that he's not that Warren Ellis.

Ha. I think it goes both ways as I have heard the real Warren Ellis mention the same thing.

Wait, which one is the real Warren Ellis in this discussion?

I have "Crooked Little Vein" by at most one of these Warren Ellisi, but that's all I know of even that one, much less his doppelgänger.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Holy smokes, find Gun Machine now!  If you liked Crooked Little Vein in the least bit, Gun Machine should blow you away.  It is much less into the bizarre outer rim of popular culture than Crooked Little Vein is.

In any conversation, the real Warren Ellis is the one we are discussing.

Also, subscribe to his newsletter and buy Trees. I've always thought of writer Ellis as the real one mainly because he's the one I'm most familiar with.

If that was the last Best Show for awhile, it was a hell of a show to go out on!

The Bee Gees bit gets better every week.

From 2015-02-17:

I hope Scharpling and some caller brought up the Will Ferrell "Get off the shed!" SNL sketch(es) because they think it's funny. I know it's one of my favorite things to be on SNL.

Great Conversation with Jerry "Turtle" Ferrara, even when it turned to hoops talk.  I hate to hear the show becoming a burden for Tom, gives me a guilty feeling.  I'd love for him to get his head together and come out swinging when he is good and ready.

I missed a lot of JWs call, having wi-fi connection probs. I heard 'Elevator Shame' and 'We need a waaaaaaaaaay bigger boat'.

Right now the 1/2 Hour of Power is about to end.  Can't wait til Friday!

I saw a lot of people on Twitter hoping that Jerry Ferrera would get Sanjaya'd by S&W. I'm glad it didn't go that way - Jerry seemed like a really nice guy with a good sense of humor about Entourage's place in pop culture.

Yeah, I haven't seen the show, but Jerry Ferrara seemed to have a good time with Tom, and cheerfully roll with the jokes.

That's the beauty of it, Tom's not a mean person, it's just now how he operates. The best I could think of to describe it was a tightrope walk: acknowledging to listeners the absurdity of Turtle from Entourage actually calling into The Best Show and past discussions of Entourage while still being totally pleasant and treating it like he would an interview with any other guest. Just a funny situation with funny questions and an engaged guest (who seems to have done his research) while still operating within that "is this really happening?" bubble.

This one even had a turn at the end, with JCF (this is what I call him now) actually getting Tom fired about the Knicks.

(I know some listeners just aren't into sports, which is OK and honestly, likely a very rational use of their time and brainspace, but I'm always happy to hear Tom get to talk about them. Partly because he so clearly enjoys it and partly because the best part about following sports, and the thing most sorely lacking from most print/radio/TV coverage and discussion of them, is getting into the same fun, geeky, trivial debates about how weird and unique sports and the athletes themselves can be.)

Anyway, Turtle called in. It was real. It happened. It was amazing. I love this Show.
This may be the year I will disappear.

My favorite part of the JCF interview was how engaged Mike seemed to be in suggesting questions for him. I didn't know Mike was such a 'Räger. TM.

I was trying in the chat to come up with other Tom interviews of this type, where the person on the other end isn't necessarily fully understanding of the Best Show, and may in fact have been a target for fun-making in other circumstances.

Kevin Smith is the all-timer. Other people mentioned Sanjaya. I remember the Nostradamus author and, in terms of only kind of grasping the show, Bob Odenkirk.

I really enjoy Patton Oswalt, Aimee Mann, Andy Kindler, Jon Daly - the people who are part of the Best Show universe itself. But it takes a tremendous amount of skill to be gently mocking and appreciative at the same time, and to make the guest comfortable.

There were several things that JCF said where I rolled my eyes because they were, you know, Hollywood insidery. But he seemed like a decent, down-to-earth guy in spite of being a small part of that world, and who knows how I or anyone else would react to being suddenly recognized on the street. It was a good change of pace.

I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

The show was wonderful last night

This was a rarer time I think the Best moment, Newbridge call aside, was a serious bit that Tom did about social media and the need to retract from it. I'll leave my personal account of this out, but that really summed up my feelings on it... the "why waste creative energy on this narrow strip of social media websites?" narrative. I'm glad it was near the end of the show too, where it could have the most impact.

Looking forward to HHOP on Friday, especially with Terre T on the panel.
