Massachusetts' Question 2 proposes to make possession of up to an ounce of marijuana a civil offense punishable with a $100 fine and confiscation instead of the current criminal offense.  I haven't smoked pot since college, so I'm don't know what an ounce of pot is worth or even what it looks like, but isn't an ounce of marijuana over $100 worth and a sizable bag?  I still voted Yes, but I would have been a little more comfortable, if not a little shocked, to see "dime bag" or "eighth" on the question instead of "ounce".

I just got back from voting and I can't tell you how nice it was to vote for someone I actually like.

amen. it's going to be a totally new experience for me since the only non-bush choices i've had in the last 8 years have been, well... shit awful. about to head over to the voting pad in a few though i need to keep things in perspective and remind myself that every polling place in the country is not going to have the same outpouring of obama support as you'd find in northwest philly. this thing is not over in the least. i'm very hopeful that he can pull it off, but i'd be lying if i said i won't be chewing 'nem nails all day long until a decision is reached. i really hope the stupid people of america do the right thing and vote for the guy with a soul. i hope they ignore all of the terrorist, socialist, inexperienced, tax-you-to-death shit we've been cynically bombarded with over the past 16 months (they really give people no credit at all, do they?) and see that this is a decent man who, i believe, has the best of humanity's interests at heart. he's making an effort to right the wrongs of the past and though that is a concept often championed by politicians, they rarely, if ever, put it into action. at the risk of sounding all soap-boxy: vote for obama or stay the fuck home.

Yeah, an ounce does seem like a pretty large amount, but it's still in the realm of "for personal use" (or at least one guy buys & splits it up with some buddies) rather than real dealing.

im excited about the hijinks going on today.

this morning on the way to work i saw a bride and groom standing on the corner holding up signs supporting PROP 102 (in short, no gay marriage) and it looks like someone had the day off with nothing better to do.

they looked ridiculous...but no pictures, sorry.

Having been forced to do absentee ballot for Maine, I am missing the excitement of going to place an actual vote in a polling place, but I am excited for the first time about politics and this election. I never used to care whatsoever (i was naive!) but this is truly an exciting time.

I just pray to god we aren't all getting our hopes too high only to be let down...

I've got a busy day ahead racing between Starbucks, Ben & Jerry and Krispy Kreme to get my free stuff.  Oh, and I gotta vote first.

What's this about? Do I need proof of having voted or something? Is this happening in NY/NJ?

Starbucks was promising a free coffee to anyone who came in and said they voted, but then election officials told them that it is against some(?) state election laws to offer anything in for a vote (for anyone). So now they're just giving out coffee to anyone who asks... Or something. I'm glad there's no Starbucks here, because it's creepy when the baristas ask your name there... Hey, just pour the coffee.

I got free coffee at Starbucks today in MO.  They did check my "I Voted" sticker, but otherwise no problem.

No problems at my polling place. It all went swimmingly.

Worst thing about voting in my district: I never get an "I Voted!" sticker.

I'm reasonably optimistic that Obama's gonna have this thing wrapped up by about 8:30 p.m. central time. If A.P. Mike is announced as the mayor-elect of Newbridge by 10 p.m. central -- and I'm much, much more cautious about my hope in this arena -- I will be drunker than I have ever been by 11:37 p.m.

I'm trying not to pin absurdly high expectations on Obama, but good lord it's going to be nice to not be completely embarrassed by this country's leadership for a change.

(Unfortunately, my beloved but misguided Texas is set to remain solidly red 'n' stupid this year and for the foreseeable future, despite our best efforts here in Austin.)
Use your head, can't you, use your head! You're on earth, there's no cure for that!
